I agree. I do believe he's committed to the club as well, a good first half and he may well invest in January. He'll be more than aware that we need 4-5 now, and Gus wouldn't be here if he hadn't committed to this.
I'd rather have Short then Ashley. I'd rather have Short then be in Coventry, Leeds, Portsmouth, Chester City, Hereford United, Darlington or Scarborough's position. In Short we trust.
I agree, think the key to a good start will be getting the defence sorted as a priority, if we can be tough to beat from the off we should get a decent budget for January.
Misconception that mate. Prize money is bonk, but international sponsorship & exposure is invaluable. It's not PL money, but it's the opportunity for a strong marketing team to bring in huge amounts.
I would prefer cautious improvements and a settled management structure, the money coming into football is all ending up in agents and players pockets, chasing rapid progress through the transfer market these days is a minefield and we have suffered by it recently with BFGB and MON, let us see what Gus can achieve in his first full season. Just keeping us in this league may not be sexy, but it is our first objective again this season, due to a set of circumstances not of the present managers making.
Lets face it, he looked relegation right in the face this season. If he does not want us to get relegated next season then we must sign some decent players. If it was me I would invest get the club up the league increase the attendances and then look to sell at a decent overall profit. Bottom line: How much is SAFC going to be worth if its in the championship or worse.......
This time last year there was a lot of talk from PDC and behind the scenes at the club about utilising our academy better and getting quality young players in and developing them into stars of the future. I think this is probably shorts end game and what he wants to happen. That being said that is not a quick fix and could take 5-10 years before we saw the benefits. Short has to understand that we need a squad now who can compete within the premiership and this will take money. I can also see from shorts point of view that he has backed managers in the past and has shelled out **** loads of cash and to be fair has seen very little return for his investment, cos lets face it we haven’t set the world alight these last few seasons. He has to put his trust in Gus and back him as he has managers in the past as right now we are more in need of a rebuild then any of the previous seasons where he has been our chairman
Ffs the transfer window isn't officially open yet and ES is being slated. At least wait until the end of the window and see who is brought in first ya miserable tw*ts. If then we have relied on freebies and over the hill muppets etc then have a go but not until. If Borini, Banega, Gomis, Sow or players of a similar ilk etc are signed will we have people on here saying " f*ck me I got that wrong". I f*cking doubt it.
If we spend £40-£50million net on those players (we won't recoup that much if we sell our whole squad) I will come back here and say well done. But I just can't see it myself, £10 million spend net is the max I can forsee and even that is very generous.
I think the issue people have is that for about 3 years now we've been balancing the books on transfers (and ****ing it on wages...). Balancing the books will only ever keep you where you are, we need progress. I don't think anyone's slated Ellis, certainly I ain't, but for sure we need to show some ambition now tht we have the right manager in place, and the press seems a little more onside.
I am not slating Short I just think he really needs to think about what he wants to get from this. I applaud him trying to balance the books and make us profitable, i think its great that we are trying to raise extra revenue from the concerts and partnerships around the world. I just dont want to end up like the mags where our chairman is just happy treading water and maintaining our premiership survival. We need investment in the club and 10 million is not going to do it. we have a massively depleted squad after losing the loanes and the ones we have lost out of contract. We are never going to get anywhere without a major squad rebuild and change of philosophy, which Gus semms to be trying to implament. I really think he needs a football person at the top of club like Quinny was as Maggie knows **** all about football and there doesnt seem to be anyone at the top of our club with any proper football knowledge
Been pondering this one all day Absolutely no way gus hasnt got the financial backing of ellis! Absolutely no way gus will have been sold up the river Gus is a real catch who has pledged his future to the fans and the club I firmly believe that gus has negotiated his financial desires and big cheese has agreed Ellis has seen it with his own eyes He wants more, he 's said it Ellis has 1,000's of millions of pounds, a wealth unimaginable to most Safc is his ship and gus is has captain Ktf!
im not talking about overspending I just think there has to be some investment due to the squad being threadbare and last season showed us we need a better quality player
As has been said, careful what you wish for….Bob Murray, Jon Stead days etc. It's Ellis for me, we are lucky to have him.Bent, Gyan, Fletcher, Johnson, you can go on. The guy has spent. And that 40,000- we have to give tickets away to get that many. have we backed him ?
