I'm not sure that being 'not-****' is enough, to be honest.

i dont think hes good enough to fire us up to be honest, but until gedo is available or somebody else is snapped up on loan he is the best option to start games..
i wanted prozzy to be a hit as much as anyone, but 2 goals against leyton orient mean sweet fa..
when he came on yesterday and quinn was running with the ball prozzy just ran alongside him like an excited dog, wouldnt shed a tear if his name wasnt in the matchday squad too much to be honest, feel sorry for the allams, but sometimes you put a ****load on black and it comes up red..

The thing is, as others have said, that if you are deployed as a striker, then you should be scoring goals. Perhaps one of the reasons we didn't get two strikers is because they saw that Jay was in the team and that he is a striker and therefore thought they didn't need one. Jay is a good player, he just seems to have lost his goal scoring touch; that's not so much a worry because we know he's capable of scoring in consecutive games, which for me would make him a bench player. But what is worrying is that he is taking up a striker slot in the starting XI, but not scoring goals, something which with Elmo back Proschwitz would probably do and Gedo will almost certainly do.

which suggests he's better paired with quick players, with Prossie they seemed to get in each others way..

He has more assists than anyone else in the team - and by a long way too.

I think we need to get away from this mindset of "Player A scores goals and player B doesn't" we're obsessed with grading players by who is and isn't a goalscorer in this country and who is a '20-goal-a-season striker'. The number of goals a striker scores can depend on all sorts of factors, generally playing for Hull City cuts a striker's goal return by about half for some reason. Aluko has only scored two more than Simpson (and if you bring assists into it he's been involved in less goals) so clearly he has the same issue as Simpson in playing well but not scoring enough and no one says Aluko isn't good enough.

Fact is for whatever reason our attack at this club is **** and it has been for years, judging any 'striker' on his goal return in a team that never scores is a bit harsh.

For what its worth - I like Simmo - he was technically our best player on a pig of a pitch at Blackpool and looking at the goal clips of the match yesterday, his hold up play and layoff to Koren late in the game was excellent.

That said a goal or two at the business end of the season would be very nice please Jay.
