...it's a bit harsh when a manager moves clubs and then proceeds to try and raid their former club for all their best players? The club's just lost a manager and then to lose some of your better players seems a bit like 'rubbing salt in the wound.'

Recent examples include Brendan Rodgers moving from Swansea to Liverpool - current rumours suggest he wants to bring Sigurdsson (who was just about to complete his move to Swansea) and a few others with him to Liverpool. Paul Lambert from Norwich to Aston Villa - he wants to bring Grant Holt with him as well (slightly different case as Holt wants to leave Norwich but still).

With the, probably silly, rumours surrounding Harry and a possible move to the Middle East, anyone else think there should be some sort of rule that says you can't sign players from your previous club for the current/next transfer window?
 
It is a bit harsh but then from the managers perspective he bought them players for his previous club and they played in his team the way he wanted...therefore he will want someone like them to do the same job at his new club...it might not be that easy to find a similar player so why not go for the one who can do the job and has proved it?

these are Footballers and managers we are talking about....loyalty is not in their vocabulary when push comes to shove.


I, like yourself am a fan and we will always see it as you described...no wonder the fans of a former club turns on the ex manager due to his dismantling of their team..but the manager doesnt care...he has enough pressure on him from his new bosses to succeed.

There's a reason why Chelsea didn't go for him and are looking at the likes of Pepe Guardiola, and that's because the top managers want only top players. Does anyone in their right mind truly believe that Pepe Guardiola would be interested in the likes of Henderson, Downing or Carroll, let alone any of the Swansea players?

By the way, why is "hitting the crossbar or the post" seen as being unlucky by so-called professional football pundits? The implication is that something magical intervened to prevent an otherwise certain goal from being scored. See, in my book, hitting the woodwork is called "missing."

The 'Pool-loving media have decried 'Pool's (and Kenny-boy's) "bad luck" at hitting the woodwork 40-odd times last season, with the likes of Talk Sport's Mickey Dim even stating that "had them [sic] goals gone in, Liverpool would have been challenging for the title, and King Kenny would have been hailed a saviour!"

Yeah, but by the same logic, Mr Dim, if my aunt had bollocks she'd be my uncle; but she doesn't, so she's my aunt. They're not goals if they don't go in, you twat, they are "misses." And 'Pool finished 8th (behind Everton) because the likes of Suarez and Carroll couldn't hit a barn door at 10 paces.

It wasn't luck; it was incompetence; and Kenny-boy deserved to get sacked.

like ourselves..Liverpool cannot go for the 'top' players i think you are reffering to..i suspect you mean the likes of Hazard and Hulk..considering you mentioned that Chelsea didnt want BR...however im sure he wasnt offered the job and nipped it in the bud anyway... when he was asked about chelsea and he replied..

'i want to build my career,not destroy it'


he was spot on and for good reasons...ask the other ex chelsea managers.
 
Its "harsh" but remember a manager is what makes the team so swansea wont be the same team, even with the same players so you can't blame players like Sigurdsson if they choose to follow rodgers as what happens if the new manager doesn't rate him? or players a different system which doesn't suit him.

If a manager leaves a club then normal transfer business should remain, as in he bids for players he wants and if they wish to leave yes its harsh but football is a ruthless and harsh game.
 
No not at all. A team like Swansea will have its 2 or 3 "Stars" and the rest are fairly mediocre. The manager knows the players and thinks that they deserve a chance at a bigger club so he takes them. Harry raided Portsmouth a bit.

Swansea put a clause in Rodgers' release saying he cannot move for any of their players for twelve months (surely nine months would be enough, if the Klansmen decide he isn't "big" enough and spend matches demanding Kevin Keegan take over?), whilst it's notable a story about Norwich not offering Holt a three-year deal for being "too old" just surfaced, which is another thing that makes it look like Lambert engineered a move away from Norwich and is hoping Holt can do likewise.

Of course, we can't criticise too much after Harry brought a chunk of the Pompey squad with him although, to be fair, they hadn't actually paid for Kaboul and Defoe...

You make an interesting point, and one which has surfaced amongst Norwich fans in the past few days. There's a 'conspiracy' going around that Lambert attempted to put little niggles into Holt's head including telling David McNally (Norwich chairman) that Holt getting a 3 year deal wouldn't be value for money, in an attempt to sign him at the new club he knew he was going to join, as well as the contract expiry of players such as Zak Whitbread, who Lambert is supposed to be chasing now he is Villa manager. All very shady, and not something that you want to see go on in football.

I love the way HIAG has to have a Liverpool hating rant on nearly every thread that's posted on this board. Not obsessed much.

We were owed a lot of money from Kaboul and Defoe's deals too so taking them back was a way of avoiding them going under and not being able to pay us.

I'm suddenly glad we didn't go in for him if that's the way he acts. Still, he'll make a fine Chelsea manager in the future...

Defoe, Kaboul, Pamarot and Pedro Mendes to be precise - I think we wrote off something like £5m on Defoe, and £3m apiece on Kaboul, Kranjcar and Crouch. It can also be argued that re-signing Defoe and Kaboul was fixing a couple of Ramos' mistakes - Kaboul shouldn't have been allowed to go, whilst selling Defoe made sense at the time but was an utter calamity six months later when Keane and Berbatov left.
