Sounds like Canas is being smart and pragmatic about the situation. He is entitled to payments under his contract. He has to be named to the 25 man senior roster if he is still on our books and there are not 25 others available for selection before him - with the exodus I think he has to be on the roster. The Club could construct a deal to loan him out but appear unable or unwilling to do that. It is best for both parties to close the contract, pay-up what's owed and move on. I suppose it would be fair to pay him the difference between what he would receive from us under contract and what he could achieve with another club at a different pay scale.
Or our manager could grow up little and make him a viable partner / alternative for / to Leon at least until January. If we are paying his wages get something out of him.
He signed on a free didn't he. That's the problem with "frees", it means high wages, which makes it a struggle to move players on if it doesn't work out. Gomis is on a 4 year contract on top whack. A big risk if you ask me.
