The fact that this is now a police matter and they are investigating an allegation of assault tells you all you need to know about what is wrong with this country. Can't the filth exercise some discretion and perspective and concentrate on the more serious crimes that blight our sceptred isle? It's pathetic.

That made me laugh, yes it was a DQ but the police getting involved is pathetic unless the judge wanted them to investigate and they have to.

If they did it of their own accord then they need looking at. It was a clear accident but the filth are morons, they really are.

The tennis authorities should fine Nalbandian a pony and chuck it at the big jessie of a linesman and let that be the end of it. If the filfth were asked to investigate, then they should charge the requestor with wasting police time. This is our taxes being spent here.

There was me thinking I was going to be one of those that you skipped over! I think they have to investigate by law but I will agree with you 100% if charges are pressed.

i did laugh at the ATP boss saying it was a serious injury.

If i was that bloke I would have given Nalbandian a reason to get new balls ...as it is i would get one of those claims at work no win no fee lot onto it.

No one died? also its Tennis compared to Joey Barton .. I am certain that they are not related.

I assumed there was a police investigation because the line judge made a complaint to them. Once they receive a complaint, are they not obliged to investigate? Just speculation.

You're right. I doubt the line judge would have complained if he'd had an apology from the player. But Nalbandian showed no concern after the incident, only apologised to the crowd (because they had paid good money for tickets), and then engaged in a bout of self pity that was sickening to hear. Lost all respect for the guy.

...Hence my suggestion above that they should charge the requestor (i.e. the line judge) with wasting police time. The tennis authorities should fine Nalbandian, pass this (modest) fine to the line judge as compensation and that should be an end to the matter. If the diddums line judge, who got his 30 seconds of fame but spent it looking like a big jessie, has really referred the matter to the police then he's a pretty pathetic guy. He got a cut on his shin. Big deal. Now every tackle in football, rugby and er... synchronised swimming comes with the potential threat of police action.

Was there criminal intent? - It's a bloody criminal waste of money. The police don't even bother to turn up for reported burglaries, just issue a crime number. All they're interested in is soft targets, Nalbandian: You're nicked!...
