Is any player's one season worth £25m?

De Gea is apparently now staying with United as Real it seems are not going to pay the asking price of £30m+ for a player who wants to leave and who has only one year left on his contract. They have apparently signed an arrangement that DG will NOT extend his contract with United and will join them on a free next summer and get a £3.5m joining fee.

Should United be happy? They will get another season from DG but they will lose him as a free at the end of the season.

I suppose if he does end up winning the title for United he'll be deemed to have been worth it?

I'd be surprised if the money men let that happen, but then again, these are the same guys that have let DG enter the last 12months of his contract.

As we are talking money, that 4th place trophy is to the money men much much more valuable than the premiership trophy itself. The difference between missing 4th (provided United get into the league proper of course) AND missing the premiership title is astronomical !!

 

Absolutely, DG's next season is defintely worth more than £13m. It would be interesting to see how they would titrate it until it becomes worthwhile for United

Personally I think United are mad to forego 25 million for one season from a goal keeper but there seems little regard for money at O.T these days.

 

£13m is a ****ing insulting offer to be fair, even with one year left on his contract, especially when you take into account that we got a similar amount for Cech, who is much older and also had one year left on his contract.
£18m would have been fairer, or even £20m.

But like my Chelsea supporting comrade says, why the **** do United care about money.
Its worth losing £13m and keeping a great GK for one more season just to spite Real Madrid imo.

I think we will be hoping that Real Madrids new keeper this season has a good season, and De Gea isn't guarenteed a place by this time next year, so has a change of heart and stays with us. That is wishful thinking though
