Giroud, purely as he is proven and would suit Rafa's system.

Since we are living in fantasy land, why not both?

As if Batshuayi or Giroud will come to a relegation fight <doh>

Not Batshuayi but Giroud wants to be in the shop window prior to the World Cup if he has any chance of being in the French squad he needs game time.
Even if we are scrapping away in the bottom three, he is definitely going to get game time and plenty of exposure.
Some say quality will always out, he has quality and may well shine very brightly in our very average team.
That said he needs service and l wonder if we have the necessary personnel to give him the type of service he needs to score goals.

Be a great signing but realistically it’s pie in the sky. He would look at an Everton or top European side if he was gonna make a loan move. I think he will stay out personally.

If £20M is all we have, lets throw it all at Man Utd and ask for Shaw and Fellani on permanent deals. Left back sorted and play Fellaini up top with Gayle. Sorted,

Why would he consider Everton and not us based on this one off season?

They will look at Everton. Established PL side with no recent history of being in relegation battles. Big spenders with new owners looking to splash the cash. A manager who is almost certain to retain their PL status. Lots of promising youngsters, good chance of long term success. Pay good wages now they have big money behind them. Just my opinion but I reckon players would view Everton as a massive step up from Newcastle.

But it is a loan deal - all the other points are for permanent signings

Agree with Dazza. This season for those looking at the World Cup it’s firstly about game time and secondly the better the team the better that team’s chance of getting the loan player but not at the expense of game time.

Both those players have featured a fair bit for their club's this season, have they not? Surely the clubs/managers would be wanting to keep hold of them as squad players?

Wenger has made it clear Giroud stays and gets more games. As expected. Chelsea have even fewer options. I don’t think permanent or loan makes a jot of difference. Anyway Everton are starting Niasse and have openly said they want a striker. Niasse types are more what we would be looking at.

No point then either in aiming for the best we can achieve.

We can try but given we couldn't even convince Abraham to join us over Swansea in the summer, and we're arguably in a worse situation now, I think realism is somewhat lacking. By all means start with the Girouds and Batshuayi but please don't waste all window hoping or thinking you have an agreement. You have got to be pro active. Set deadlines for decisions and be brave enough to move on.

By the end of the window we need someone better than Joselu who Rafa trusts more than Mitrovic. Otherwise you might as well get ready for some championship football.

Niasse isn't that bad either. He is far better than Joselu.

I was going to say, I really quite like Niasse. Seemed to get a bum deal from Koeman and coudn't work out why. He's mobile, can finish, has pace. He's not a world beater, but in our mini league of six he'd be a superb option to have. He's considerably better than everyone we have. I just wish we had the ability to find these players, our touch in the transfer market has completely deserted us and Rafa's not done much to rectify it by all accounts.

I think there'll have to be a bit of shopping done on foreign soil. Rafa will be hesitant I'd imagine due to the clear need for Prem experience, but I struggle to think what we could get.

Hope we don't end up with just Ings only for him to get injured on his debut.
