    The cheapest tend to be Luton or Stansted. The only problem though is that onward travel into London can then be quite expensive. For example, a return on the Stansted express to Liverpool Street is £29 odd. Add another few pound for tube tickets and it would have been cheaper to travel by Aer Lingus or BMI (now BA) to Heathrow. Of the "cheaper" airports, I always find Gatwick the best as the onward travel is reasonable (a day travelcard including all tubes and buses is £12.70) and the train to Victoria or Clapham Junction only takes about half an hour or so.

    Ryanair prices have gone up quite a lot recently and their timetable makes for a very long day if you are going on a day trip. The flight heading over is 7.40am and coming back is something like 9.45pm which means you arrive in Dublin about 11pm absolutely wrecked. If you were going one day and coming back the next, that wouldn't apply though.

    My own personal preference lately has been to fly Aer Lingus or BMI (BA) into Heathrow. Leave Dublin at 9.50am and arrive about 11am. An hour on the tube and you are in the Bush about 12 midday gasping for your first pint. The return flight is 7.10pm and you are in Dublin a little after 8pm. Yes, it is a bit more expensive but I find it worth the extra few bob.

    Yes I have Inkedupp. If you were doing that and trying to control costs, I would say go Ryanair into Gatwick is the best bet. They have a flight coming back about lunchtime. If you don't like Ryanair, Aer Lingus also fly that route and arn't too expensive.

    If I was booking for myself only, I would fly Aer Lingus into Heathrow and book a room at the Jurys Heathrow. It is very reasonable for the standard of accomodation ie £48 (room only) for 2 people for the night, got it's own bar and right beside Heathrow and 200 yards to Hatton Cross. Two lads sharing can have 2 twin beds.

    OK - just to give people an idea of flights and costs etc;

    The Reading game is provisionally fixed for Sat 3rd November 2012. That is subject to change but hopefully, tomorrow we will find out when exactly it is.

    Here is a selection of flights that we could take from Dublin for that game departing on 3rd Nov and returning 4th Nov. The suggested flights below are just to give you an idea of times and costs. There are earlier and later flights available too.

    Aer lingus Dublin - Heathrow Dep 09.00 Arr 10.20, return Heathrow Dep 14.25 Arr 15.45. Cost 109.99 euro including all taxes and charges.

    Aer Lingus Dublin - London Gatwick Dep 08.50 Arr 10.10, return Gatwick 16.50 - Arr 18.10. Cost 76.98 euro incl taxes and charges.

    Ryanair Dublin - London Gatwick Dep 07.40 Arr 09.10, return Gatwick 13.35 - Arr 15.00. Cost 112 euro incl taxes and charges

    Conclusion, the Aer Lingus flight to Gatwick is the best value at 77 euro. Ryanair is more expensive than Aer Lingus to Heathrow.

    Ryanair to Stansted is 112 euro too.

    BMI (now British Airways) to Heathrow is roughly 120 euro return.

    Hope that gives you all a rough idea.

    personally id like to stay overnight but the rest of the lads don't have to. I'll look up some b+b's around shepherds bush if anyone wants to stay too.
    or if anyone can suggest one or two?

    Took up smoking again recently so Finglas' suggestion of Jurys at Heathrow has gone to the bottom of the list, though the price is hard to resist.

    Well lads, sorry i am joining this conversation late, but was busy at work (ish).

    Looks like there are two things on the go here.

    One - Dublin Meeting
    We need to identify a match where QPR are playing on a Saturday and a pub that will deffo be showing the match. As Finglas goes to most home matches (respect to you) i think we should pick an away QPR match. Key questions;
    a. Which match to pick. Recommendation 1, Sat 25 Aug away to Norwich. Game should not be changed to Sunday and possible chance of 3pts
    b. Anybody in Dubin know a pub that is likely to show this game when other bigger matches would be on? somewhere central. Good guinness essential.
    c. We need a plan for an overnight for those that have to travel long distances possibly including our friends from England and we also need an option for those who will not stay overnight.

    Two - Trip to HQ
    Firstly we need to identify the match and apply for tickets ASAP. The Reading game is an excellent choice. We need to realise that it may be impossible to arrange a date/game that will suit everybody but we must confirm a date to ensure the best chance of tickets for those that will travel.
    We need to plan for two options;
    a. Fly morning of match - match - pissssssssssssssss up and stay overnight. Finglas has the best grip on this due to his monumental efforts every season.
    b. Fly morning of match and return that evening.

    If we can generally agree on these two dates then the rest of the planning can fall into place and people with greater expertise/knowledge can shape the trips over the coming weeks. Thoughts?
