Baffling decision not to give a penalty. His arm is fully stretched out when he handles the ball. That said, you just know Dykes would have fluffed the spot kick.
Given the number of people on the stairs I think a 98th minute winner would’ve seen half the away end and the poor bastard steward told to stand in the middle of it in A&E.
Dykes came on for EDB 2nd half last night and played more in an advanced central midfield role than as a striker I thought. Armstrong was still on, replaced by Kolli later. Seemed to work ok, certainly in terms of securing a point. Doesn't directly help our lack of goals though.
I agree with buying/ obtaining a new striker but we would be very lucky to find one that will solve our ability to score. Unfortunately, we need to be realistic and we must rely on our current squad to find a cutting edge. There are two reasons I say this, firstly we are in no position to get someone who will start scoring goals as these players are playing in higher leagues and cost a fortune. We will be looking at the lower leagues or even non-league. (Could find another Charlie, maybe?) Secondly, if we do bring on overseas player with quality known by Marti he will need a few months to bed in, which is the norm for any foreign import. I don't want to be negative, just realistic! Therefore Smyth, Armstrong, Kelman & Kolli look like our best bets unless there is a kid in the youth squad biting at the bit, if so, give him a go. I like Dykes especially his work rate, but he is not the answer, however I thought he was more effective yesterday playing a slightly deeper role and provided a couple of nice passes to Smyth & Co.
