Taylor played out of his skin. Shame about the penalty, but we deserved a win. Charlton were poor. Definitely dropped 2 points. Luckily it didn't affect our position, but we're only something stupid like 3 points off 18th!
Delighted to have nicked a point at the end which I think we just about deserved. Yes, we're not a great side, but I didn't see that much from you either to impress, especially if you're hoping for promotion. You sat back in the second half, and it looked like you were on course for a repeat of what happened at The Valley until Jackson popped up at the end. We had a bit of fortune with the deflection to be fair, and didn't create too many chances besides that, but I would have felt hard done by had we got nothing. We probably had a let off with the early non-penalty award for you, and I was too far away to judge whether our one was a dive or if your penalty was justified. It was annoying that so at so many of our corners we were penalised for fouls whereas you never where, but they may all have been right. Today was my first visit to Portman Road and I really liked it. Your pitch also puts ours to shame Anyway, best of luck from now on
To be fair Charlton should have had a penalty in the first half. When their man was booked for a dive I finally realised that Atwell should not be refereeing football matches. .
Ref was poor, weather was poor, we didnt/ couldnt change our style to stem the flow in the second half. Charlton looked better than their position would suggest but they didnt really look like they had a 'finisher' to get on the end of some nice play. Our first 15 minutes showed some of the best passing & wide play that I have seen this season and Anderson looked like a winger but soon reverted to type. Second half we really didnt seem to show up. Murphy was an only outlet on several occassions and I applaud his workrate and energy but if he could shoot with a right foot he could have scored 2 or 3. He seemed to run away from their goal or into a totally inpossible position purely to try to get a shot away with his left. To be fair to him though he seemed to be more up for the game than the majority of the team and would probably get my MOTM. Others have said 2 points dropped but for me that wasnt the case. I dont thing we deserved victory. I think a draw was a fair result but also I wouldnt have been too amazed if Charlton got all 3 points. We just kept dropping deeper and deeper.
For me this is 2 points lost. Imagine the delight on the Charlton players faces, when they get the team sheet, the main dangerman rested, and on the bench, what a boost. Just don't understand why he leaves three players out, when they have all made major impacts on our recent run, they must have been on the floor in hysterical laughter, in the Charlton dressing room. Surely if he want's to rest players he's got the perfect opportunity on Saturday, as this is a nothing match, as far as our season is concerned. Again second half we sit back, and concede the ball, instead of dictating play, so its not really a surprise that they score, with so much possession, its a matter of when
TS, I agree with you. I was basing my 'not 2 points lost' comments on the way the game played out but before the game started and without knowing our team I would have been hoping for a 3 pointer.
