Good post...I still think pace is the answer (it is in most sports).

Another truism is to keep it simple stupid (kiss). To win football games, you have to score goals and let in as few goals as possible.

So a good keeper and good goal scorers are the 101 of putting together a football team. Then defenders in front of the keeper and midfielders to link forwards and defenders.

My assessment is that we have an average keeper but a good back four. Until Wyke transformed from the worst striker ever to a good striker we struggled. Wyke and O'Brien are looking a decent pair but we urgently need back up for them. Mcgeady and Diamond are useful as well.

Our midfielders are good in parts but certainly not creative enough...or are not scoring goals.

To push on for promotion, we need pacy strikers and creative midfielders (also a back up LB atm)

Same hymn sheet, except for the full backs, our CB,s are top notch and we have three excellent players to accommmodate, so just to throw a curve ball in, would our defence be even better with a back three of Sanderson, Wright and Willis plus O/9 and Hume when fit , in the wing back roles , three in midfield and two up front, just a random thought.

Welcome aboard. Hope I'm not one! I get a bit "dog with a bone" at times but I'm a proper fan and love the lads

Said similar about his first of his hattrick at Wimbledon. It was a great move with a "right place right time" finish. Something that players simply weren't doing previously. Great to see IMO.

As for the performance last night - I actually enjoyed it as it was what you call "professional" and something we haven't done previously. Score a goal and see it out.

Downes just stood out for me. I thought he'd be great in red & white. That is why googled him. When I saw the price tag, the age, the academy tie, and the interest from premier league clubs, I understood why we got a Winchester instead. Just a little disappointed is all.

Well I left for work ten minutes later last night and we must have scored as soon as I left the house FFS  :D

So it was straight in, clock on and didn't check the score until after the final whistle.

Would of preferred a five nil win against 11 lol but I'll take any win right now thank you very much :)

At one point the main commentator said "McGeady has been left out for a while and was even told he could leave!!" which is a complete under-representation of how marginalised he was.

Then he said Gooch has been out injured (didn't mention COVID)

Then he went off on a schpiel about how Ipswich have been unlucky with COVID and had 8 players with it at one point, but didnt mention ours.

It all felt very "I'm giving myself 20 mins to research this match"

Bar injuries, I can see O'Nien struggling to get back in the team. Power looks good in the right back berth and Diamond in right midfield. Having Luke on the bench would be seen to provide cover for both.

It's not unusual for him but this was a bit hypocritical from Lambert.

You could see, from the start, he'd sent his team out to get into us and stop us settling.

I wasn't the least bit surprised they'd have someone sent off ...

... I was impressed with the referee sending someone off so early.

Sadly I think it spoiled our game plan rather than giving us a big advantage.

BBC local news today.. Sunderland managed a 1-0 win against ten men Ipswich.. No mention that they started with eleven men and got a player sent off for an absolutely dreadful challenge.
