It actually comes from ancient Greek and means " way of spending time " or "lecture ".

Yeah but the individual parts of the word are from Ancient Greek "rub" and "through":

Origin
late 16th century (denoting a disquisition): from French, via Latin from Greek diatribē ‘spending of time, discourse’, from dia ‘through’ + tribein ‘rub’.

But, more importantly, telling JWM that it originally meant "way of spending time" doesn't give me quite the same opportunity to make a joke about him being the proverbial masturbator

nah mate, we haven't signed holty on a free.

Even by your standards that comeback is weak.

Mate sometimes you need to just applaud SN's funny picture rather than try to have the last word and, in attempting to be witty, look po-faced. Come on, that picture is bloody funny!
