Hang on a minute you kicked this off by slagging off Lee Darnbourgh's 'stunning ineptitude' in finding both players. Now you are saying there was nothing wrong with their ability ? If it's a question of wages, I'm not aware that the 'head of recruitment' also decides on the wages paid etc. When they were signed both players came as part of a deal. Stewart, in the Robertson deal and Kingsley in the Clucas deal. The wages paid would have been the going rate for the level we were playing at and on par with what they were getting at their selling club. Keep digging.
Not for one with zero resale value. As we know, you can get a top L1 player for that or less who's just coming into the prime of his career. Seems a waste to me, especially when wasting money stopped us getting the likes of McKenna, Norwood etc who've both gone on to do extremely well and would've been game-changers for us.
We were never getting McKenna, ever. Skalak from Brighton was closest and he ended up at Millwall. Incidentally, we did pick up a top right back for free. And another for 400k. We’ve done well this season with transfers, even made the obligatory European flash in the pan signing who stays for a season before having his contract terminated in July. We will strengthen in January too.
So, a head of recruitment doesn't work to a budget, doesn't manage contracts and isn't expected to get value from the aforementioned budget? Oke doke. I'm saying the signings he made on relegation from the PL didn't offer value. Where was the re-sale income and did the competeitve promotion budget we had at the time translate into results? I'm not slagging the players for agreeing contracts or saying those 2 were ****, just that we overpaid, even in those cases mentioned above when all said and done. When you consider the likes of Dicko, Milinkovic and others, then yeah, I think recruitment in Darnborough early years has been pretty poor. Inept even. I think you should actually start digging your head out of the sand if you think out transfer policy has been a success in the recent past.
That’s three teams in a month whose seasons have fallen apart after playing us - Grimsby, Harrogate and Ipswich. We must be doing something very right.
i posted a table based on the percentages a few games back and noticed they were doing better than their position indicated. they'd missed a few games because of the virus.
Our game in hand is against Accrington, it already can’t be played until the Tuesday before Christmas, or more probably after Xmas. They will have a massive fixture pile up in the New Year.
