This silver spoon nonsense is starting to wear a bit thin now spouted by fools with an agenda. I would suggest the worst thing ever to happen for Lee Johnsons City career is Gary Johnson. It gives these idiots ammunition to fire at him every chance they get. Lee Johnson was a decent player for us by no means a world beater but certainly better than many to have donned the red shirt. If he had a different surname or if we had a different manager at the time nobody would have too many complaints about his selection. Lee Johnson had an ok start to his managerial career again no world beater but getting mainly good reviews. Again if he had a different surname I think most people would have been accepting of us going for a young upcoming manager from League One. I think his time at City has been made tougher by who he is and not easier.

cant agree I always thought his ability was smothered by the situation of certain aspects of the crowd being alien even when he was playing extremely well … has had a reasonably successful career …. some players play 600 games and win Jack sc*** he has 472 games 35 goals and a Scottish league cup medal with ….. look up em yourself …. honours
now he gets the same stick as a manager mostly undeserved ………...

We have had worse managers than LJ and there were worse players than him too.

I have no special allegiance to the bloke and if it looks like we might go down then I will call for a change, but right now I believe it would be an unnecessary risk to change manager.

The thing is that a vocal group of our supporters were calling for his head as soon as he arrived - if you go onto OTIB there are about 2 new threads on LJ each week where the lovers and haters lock horns in a seemingly perpetual battle, based on hypothetical situations and carefully doctored statistics. It’s a bit sad really.

Why don’t people let the league table make up their minds?

Yet Ipswich have taken points off Norwich, Birmingham and Brentford who you think we won't get anything from despite Brentford being below us and in atrocious form since Smith left

You know that's not true RP, plenty of players a lot worse than LJ that's put on a city shirt...for me, he was pretty decent..

We've had a lot worse managers also.....Overall, i don't think he's doing a bad job....I understand everyone's expectations of hitting the big time by reaching the premiership.........not all a bed of roses there, unless you spend the money like Man C and alike!!

Oh there's no doubt there have been worse than LJ, but none were employed by their father.
I believe he would have never played for us if GJ hadn't been manager.
His career of 405 games - 385 were under the employ of his father. You can't count loan games elsewhere eg Chesterfield, as they chose not to sign him so he came back to us, even though they were relegated to L2 while he was there.
The other 20 were in Scotland and I'm afraid players only go there because of the sub standard played.

Not sure how anyone can dispute these stats.

I genuinely respect your opinion 1For, if you think he was 'decent' then fair enough.

Didn’t he go to Derby for a while - and they wanted him, but GJ recalled him - I think??

It always looks suspicious when someone is employed by a family member, granted - and it’s tarnished his reputation forever with some people.

. He went on loan to Derby for a month. Derby wanted to extend it for the rest of the season but weren’t happy about the recall clause we wanted to put in the deal so that scuppered the deal

    <laugh><laugh><laugh>

    And the world is flat.

They never wanted him, his father knew better.
He let him sign for Hearts from Yeovil and what happened ?
Poor sod got stuck in reserves and guess who paid £50k to rescue him.

Please please don't make excuses, LJ would have never played again if GJ hadn't persuaded Lansdown to sign him.

You might also want to ask yourself why a very fit 31 year old retired from playing.
Think we both know the answer.

Maybe LJ did play for Yeovil & City because of his Dad...Everyone takes opportunity when it's offered from whatever avenues.....It happens in many establishments..
Would Eddie Hearn ever had been anything had it not been for Barry?
It doesn't take away the fact, that LJ was a decent player for us, played and was part of two great seasons in our history under GJ, so I don't really give a **** how he got there, was one player that gave 100%. Lacked a bit in height and build but definitely had a decent footballing brain..... most of the time justifying his place in the team.......son or no son..
Hopefully he will go on and become a decent manager for us...
