I'm missing today as my whole household and family have that Norovirus thing except me.

A friend who rarely goes Charlton text me before kick off saying how I was missing The Skids.

I replied that my poor Brother had them all night long by the sound of it.

Good win for us, like I said, I would have been happy with a point, but the win doesn't surprise me...

Was a bit worried when Danny Haynes scored (It had to be him, but he'll always be a legend to us lot for his scoring record against the Budgies), but we held out...

Good luck for the rest of the season and enjoy the rest of the Xmas holidays...

    I know I will! <cheers>

Cheers Welly - you deserved the win - thought DJC was outstanding, as was Lee Martin.

I'm going to have a couple of mince pies and a calm down before I post properly.

This was the first game i've seen since Barnsley. Just come back from the game and oh my, That was a sorry affair, Ipswich weren't good, we weren't good, ipswich only less sh!t then we were. A truly scrappy affair where to be honest, neither side deserved anything. A shockingly bad penalty from DJ Campbell after a truly awful tackle from Frimpong.

Hamer - 7 (MOTM) Was solid, 2 goals he could do nothing about poor defending for both and if pen had been on target he'd had savedit, seemed calm and composed
Solly - 7 Solly did what Solly does so I can't give him a bad rating but he should be doing this kind of performance at the very least, won us the pen
Morro - 5 Wasn't marking his man for the 2nd goal and never seemed the calm self i've been used to seeing
Cort - 6 Wasn't bad but wasn't special either, still a rock in the air and caused a bit of havoc in the end when he went up front
Seaborne - 4 first time i've seen the guy as far as i'm aware, Didn't have to do much defending so can't comment on it, just his play on the ball and into space is sooo poor.
Green - 6 Didn't have a bad game, got crossed in but the ipswich keeper was pretty good at claiming crosses and also Hulse can't head the ball so was no point in crossing it took him off to easily.
Stephens - 5 Shadow of his usual self, was poor on the ball lost it for the 2nd goal and didn't seem to be passing it at all to his standard, didn't back out of tackles though got stuck in but only a 5 because he cost the 2nd goal.
Frimpong - 3 The worse player on the pitch by a long shot, gave a stupid penalty away, couldn't pass or kick or head, or control or tackle just shocking, he may play better when i don't get to see it but by that performance the sooner he goes back to Arsenal the better.
Haynes - 6 Was crap and not there but scored a pen and got me standing up and clapping him for getting the ball and putting it on the 6 yard box for the time wasting keeper.
Fuller - 5 Was poor really poor, few bright sparks but not much, messed up 2 mins into second half stopping jacko from hitting it but yeah was poor
Hulse - 3 Makes my 5ft 4" girlfriend look good in the air, and he is a big lad, slower then a bike without wheels and had the touch of a peado, just no go back to QPR

    Subs
Jacko - 5 did nothing but he never does, he just comes in and out of games and pops up every now and then, didn't really see him
Pritchard - 7 We all know that I can't stand him and think he is never near this level and earlier i said the sooner he got sold the better, today he really impressed me (first time this season iv'e seen him play at CM rather then RM) he brought new life to the game, ran about, and although he's not strong, or tall and sometimes passing astray he gives his all and won more headers then Hulse did
Kermit - 6 Not enough time to change the game but did start to cause trouble Powell needs to bring subs on earlier simple as but the sooner he starts again the better looked a class above fuller and hulse even in the 10 mins he played

Ref - Poor not even a rating from me, too many times he and his lino looked at each other having no clue what to do and just guessed.

Overall poor game by both sides, never know, too much turkey for the players yesterday, and WHERE THE HELL WAS BWP, I don't think he can finish as well as he should but he would have thrived in this game a scrappy affair like none other.

That was the most depressing day I've had since the bad old days of a couple of years ago. Thoroughly inept performance. Sadly it is the team I would have picked from those available so I can't complain there. Sterile atmosphere. Well beaten by a very ordinary Ipswich team who deserved the win. We were utterly inept. I have no idea what system we were trying to play. I defend Danny Green robustly but he was devoid of confidence today and with his half time hooking I suspect we may have seen the last of him in a Charlton shirt. Great shame. He has been badly managed. Fuller and Hulse can't play together. Seaborne was just laughable and provided the comic moment of the day by trying to let a ball go out but letting it bounce off his standing foot. Stephens had a very poor game but at least he tried to play football. Not sure where we go from here. I try not to criticise SCP without good reason but I just cannot fathom what system we were trying to play today. Utterly depressing. And a good soaking on the way home. Ah well, my dog is giving me a cuddle and the whisky bottle is nearby. Relegation struggle on the cards I'm afraid.

i dunno... peterborough were better than us and they were bottom.

i hope someone comes back with 2m for stephens again. 3 new midfielders needed and someone to come in and practice throw ins (retaining posession) and attacking

We were bad but not that bad[/QUOTE]

Really? I've seen 11 of our 12 home games and we are the worst team I have seen. Peterborough played us off the park before Fullers wonder goal. Barnsley gave us a good caning and Ipswich, although poor, were better than us today. We have no reliable system and have been unable to play the same team two weeks running. I genuinely fear for us now. January will e crucial. Depending on who we get in and who we lose I think we wil be looking behind us quite soon. As I write this all the strugglers are winning. It really pains me to say it but we are relegation fodder. I'd love to be wrong but a donation to Ponder's charity if we are not in the relegation fight come April.

Shocking first half display. Could easily have been 4-0 down. I know I've always praised Pritchard, but I don't think it's coincidence that we've lost 3 on the trot since he got dropped, and that we improved a lot in the second half when he came on. The only other decent midfielder we have is Wilson, who was suspended today, and so the midfield was non-existent. Fuller worries me- he seems to have a mental problem with his hamstring, and I don't know what can be done about that. I'm afraid Seaborne is not very good, and if Evina is fit Seaborne can go back to Southampton. Likewise the over-rated Frimpong. I thought Hulse had a decent game today, tried his best to link up with the midfield, a pretty hopeless task really. I think we can beat Derby but The Doctor has to put out a balanced team. Having Wilson back will help, Haynes is not a winger. I'd like to see him partner Kermit- the Hulse/Kermit partnership never works.

Worst first half performance IMO since Forest, and as strong a supporter as I have been of Danny Green his showing today was dire, not as dire as Frimpong it has to be said, who should be on his way back to Arsenal right now, we simply don't need him against Derby. As I don't get to see any other games than the first team I can't really comment but wouldn't Harriot have been a better option than either of them?

Stevens played like a man with his head already at another club; Haynes and Fuller playing together was never going to work, and then there was Hulse. Don't know what to make of this player - he battles and scraps for everything, but I'd give that all up if he could win one decent header.

My MoM was Leon Cort, by a street, followed by Chris Solly, and when he came on, Bradley Pritchard.

Referee and both linos were completely clueless, the East Stand one just shading it for ineptitude.

If we play like that at Watford, we're going to get buried.

The window can't come soon enough for me.

Comic moment came when an Ipswich player miscontrolled the ball and it went out for a throw... the West Stand lino gave an Ipswich throw <laugh>..even the ref couldn't let that one go and gave a Charlton throw

Solly got slaughtered in the first half by lee Martin no one has done that to solly since the 4 0 defeat at Millwall a while back.
    Lee Martin was MOTM easily

We were bad but not relegation, it was one really poor performance, but the fact its the worse means that we can play better and we will, very bad day at the office for us but we are not in a relegation battle or struggle. Very bad but try to keep positive, its a learning curb guys. We've found not to keep hulse and that we need kermit to start and for pace. Remeber we took a spanking from county last year and we came up there, powell needs to learn when subs are needed, kermit was coming on then we scored the pen and he sat back down, we need someone to rival stephens because he feeks he is untouchable but thst is for lack of competition. We will not be relegated and will not be in a battle 12th place lowest finish. We were poor dont get me, wrong but not relegation struggle.

I went today for the first time since Palace.

First half showing was indeed awful. Better in the second half, but still created little.

Seabourne - the kind way of saying it is that 'nothing went right for him today'. The harsher, but probably more accurate, way of saying it is that 'He's not very good'. Constantly lost possession, and his day was summed up by accidentally knocking the ball out for a throw when trying to let it go.

Frimpong offered so little. Pritchard contributed far more. Play him in the middle please SCP.

Stephens had a poor game, though his free kick in the first half was unlucky. He has the demeanour of a great player considering which defence-splitting pass to play, only to be caught on the ball. Often he avoids the simple ball, even if it is the best option.

I was pleased to see Green get another chance, but he was also ineffective. If he is off in January, thanks for the memories.

I thought Hulse played really well. Tewkes - your memory must be going, he won plenty of decent headers today, plus he linked up well with everyone. Although he should have scored when the ball fell to him in the box.

Fuller was OK, apart from nicking it off Jacko at the start of the second half. He has a physical presence no-one else in this league has, but he is a little selfish.

    Defence was OK, Seabourne apart.

Ipswich were a personification of Mick McCarthy - workmanlike and organised. But we need to be beating teams like these at home.

First of all I didn't go to the game today, but I cannot understand why people keep saying we aren't in a relegation fight, because quite frankly we are. Its not back to the wall but we will be fighting relegation if we keep going like we are. The teams we have lost to recently are not exactly setting the league alight themselves and in fact they were all below us in the league at the time we played them and lost each one. If we are losing to the few teams below us do you expect us to be winning against the teams higher than us in the league? Our next away games are dire Watford, Blackburn, Palace, Hull and Leicester. Do you really expect us to return with 3 points in any of matches let alone all of them? Me neither. Come the end of February I could see us being in the relegation zone. However, I do believe we have enough to stay up, it will be interesting to see what January brings.

My third game of the season, the other two being Leicester and Watford.

    Some thoughts...

    1. We are too one dimensional in attack and too slow in possession, so we don't create enough chances.
    2. Stephens had a shocker. Someone should ban him from coming too deep. You can't dally with it around the D!
    3. I can't see what Frimpong and Hulse offer that Hollands and Kermo don't.
    4. Having Fuller in the side pushes Stephens too deep.
    5. Having Fuller and Hulse as a forward line - no pace, no penetration.
    6. We looked a lot better when JJ and Pritchard came on.

Our midfield is a big weakness which is where I would refer the Doctor to perform surgery in January.
