I'm not sure that article's right, on the Ipswich boards they all seem to think it was a joint bid totalling £2.3m.

You're right though, if they're splashing the cash and their number one target really is Jimmy, then with no fee the wage should balance itself out over the two years.
 
I like Billy Sharp, and would like him to sign here, but then again i think he wont fit the bill here, would he?
 
It's wages that are the issue not a transfer fee.. with transfer fees you are able to sell the player on later.

Paying Bullard's wages would cost us 45k x 52 = 2,340,000 every year! I think the total wage bill including the management staff is around £10m a year - so like Hull he would make up 25% of our entire wage bill.

And since Jimmy is 32 we wouldn't be able to command any kind of fee in two or three years' time.

We refused to match Charlie Austin's wage demands which led him to join Burnley instead of Town - Norris and McAuley are bound for the Premier League because again we wouldn't meet their wage demands. Unless you want to run the club into the ground you have to manage
the finances sensibly, that's all. We do want Bullard but we're never going to pay more than £20k a week for him, which would in itself break our wage structure.
 
I think Jimmy will bring his wages down a tiny bit to go to Ipswich if he was that desperate.

only one greedy b*****d, but a fantastic footballer. Exactly what we needed the last few games of the season!

I'd say a £2m fee and £20k a week is about Jimmy's true worth.

Give us a £2m fee and we'll use it to pay off Jimmy, so he agrees to a £20k a week deal with you. Piece of piss.

Olm, I feel you are being very tongue in cheek with your comment here, why would the mighty tigers give JRB 2 million pounds when he is only seeking 1 (and a bit). If Ipswich Town are going to make an offer they should put it in writing as soon as possible in order that constructive talks may begin. Your comment on another thread that the parting needs to be as painless as possible was on the money as usual and in this case the less money the mighty tigers have to hand over, the less pain. For what it's worth, there are people close to Mr Bullard who are convinced he will be the midfield driving force for a major championship title contender next season. It looks like any hopes Ipswich fans have of their club obtaining Mr Bullards signature are rapidly fading and dying!

What reason do you have for thinking he's only seeking one and a bit million?

His contract is worth another £4.6m, if Ipswich pay him £20k a week, he's £2.5m out of pocket, I doubt he'd accept just half that as a settlement.
 
What makes you think he would accept 20 k a week from Ipswich?

The logic for the figure mentioned is in the thread about mr Bullards golden good bye, you did reply to someone on that thread which dosn't mean to say you read it. But you could if you chose to.

I have read that thread, that's why I asked what made you think he'd accept a pay off for far less than his contract entitles him to?

I don't think for one minute he'll accept a pay-off that falls well over £1m short of what he'd get if he didn't move on. If he ends up getting about £4m of the £4.6m he'd get staying with us, then he may just accept it to secure the move to the club he wants to be at, anything above that I think he'll dismiss it out of hand.
 
Also transfer fees are paid over time, they'd agree to pay us so much a month over the next couple of years, not the whole fee in one fell swoop. Wages have to be there and paid that very week (or month not sure how they do it) so even if they could afford a 2 odd million transfer fee and 20k a month, doesn't mean they will have 45k to cough up for him every week without running a massive debt via a bank loan if you can even get them any more with all this financial cutdown bollocks and banks going bust.
 
Definitely £2.6m for Coppinger and Sharp, £300k for JC and £2.3m for BS.

That's for anyone who actually cares about the original purpose of this article.

If the transfer fee is paid over time, and so are wages then it makes no difference to Ipswich. The Allams have shown that if money is guaranteed in future they're prepared to put the capital in until it arrives. Ipswich agree to pay us £2M over 3 years, the Allams put in £2M now as a loan to pay off JB and take back the money as the payments come in. I don't even mind if they put a small interest rate on it to make themselves a little bit back that way (given it'll save the club a fortune if JB is off the wage bill)

I actually meant that it's not that simple for Ipswich. Just because they can afford a 2.3 mil transfer fee doesn't mean they can afford 45k per week. I thought Ipswich were broke anyway??
