Invictus broke down badly after the Hennessy, and initial reports say he won't race again.

They will "look" at him again tomorrow, but it doesn't seem good.

Such a shame - a very good horse, with massive potential who has been cursed by injury problems.

Hope he gets a long and happy retirement, assuming that he can't be patched up. <ok>

Conclusive evidence that it's time for me to stop backing horses. Talk about putting the mockers on 'em.

Desperately sad news, I thought he looked right back to his old self coming round the final bend in the Hennessy. Fingers crossed he will be OK and can enjoy a long and happy retirement.

A real, genuine shame. Had everything. Remember when I was a regular on the forum some time ago that a certain OddDog was brimmimg about a horse called Invictus who had won a novice chase at Plumpton on a Monday I think. Something about him being the most spectacular jumper of a fence he had seen from a novice in some time.

Naturally, I backed him when he lost a shoe round Cheltenham when only 3rd, and was at work when forgetting to back him at 8/1 in the Reynoldstown that morning. He duly hosed up.

His biggest compliments have been from his competitors. Silviniano Conti and Bobs Worth made his form strong, and he looked ready to put the field to the sword in the Hennessey until something went wrong 4 out.

He was spectacular at his fences again and I am convinced a Gold Cup winner has gone begging for the really unfortunate Alan King stable.

All that matters now is a full recovery and a healthy retirement.
