I'm not nessecery defending avb,just trying to see both sides,and what i see is a good team being assembled,that when everyone is up to speed,should be a force to be reckoned with,if AVB is the one to make them click,i don't know,but he is then one chosen for the job,so he get's my backing,for now,no matter how we are playing ,we are getting results,and i will put that first,but like all Spurs fans i want to see our flair reappear

Townsend has 2 good feet. There is no reason he can't go outside down the right and cross it instead of cutting in and blasting. The choice of when and where to do each should come with maturity. This is a guy who has played something like 20 prem games remember.
Chadli is pretty two footed too, but underperforming.
I'm not sure about Lamela.
Lennon is 1-footed, and no-footed when shooting.
Gylfi favours his right, not sure how good his left is, assuming pretty bad.

What problems? Everything is going to plan as far as I can see. We are keeping the ball, denying the opposition quality possession and goals and creating chances of our own. We've had our best PL start ever and have yet to concede a goal outside London. All this with half the squad changed from last year, and our best ever player gone.
There is a reason why AVB is paid highly to manage us and we are just posting on a bulletin board.

Gross, Santini and Ramos all did a better job of managing Spurs than any poster on here would (unless one of you is Wenger in disguise). It's a very hard job being a PL Manager: that's why they get paid megabucks, more in a year than most of us get in a lifetime. Most of AVB's critics show no sign of even understanding what AVB is trying to achieve so its not surprising they see problems that don't exist.

Just had a watch of the highlights of Spurs beating Wolves in the 1972 UEFA Cup.

Our front 6 were Mullery, Perryman, Peters, Coates, Gilzean, Chivers. If that team was selected today there would have been a hoard of posters on her complaining about the midfield being too defensive, no creative players and no proper wingers; and presumably that Bill Nicholson was clueless.

I don't think that Gross was ever given a real chance. Took a big step up, made a balls up of the first press conference and was a joke figure forever after that.
Had a mixed and rather poorly balanced squad to choose from and never got a full season to show what he could do. Then went on to do very well at Basel.
I can remember Liverpool fans having a good laugh at his expense when they drew the Swiss side in the Champions League in 2002. Then they got knocked out by them with the help of Timothee Atouba.

Of course I don't have any objections to fans criticising managers and making suggestions for improvements. But I don't agree that we can identify 'obvious errors'. A really good manager of anything gets about 55% of decisions right and because a decision in one area affects outcomes in other areas it is impossible, even with hindsight, to say that any particular decision was a mistake. I would say that most posters on here would get around 52% of decisions right, Redknapp about 56% and AVB about 57%.

An error can be obvious, even if that error leads to something positive as we see that often, managers making glaring errors in team setup, the team outplayed yet then still win the game.

In the short term that isn't much of an issue, yet if the errors continue or form a pattern then there is as much basis to suggest a manager will get found out, as well on the flip side if fans want to take the view its all part of the gelling process.

Nothing has been proved yet, so it's all up for debate.

Just where do you start with a sentence like that??? ...if you can't see an obvious error you've got no right to comment anywhere...well you won't coz you've not seen it!

Most if not all people remotely interested in the game ARE, never mind could or should, are going to see an obvious error. But only people with experience and good level of understanding are going to spot the finer point errors.

That's exactly what I am trying to say. The debate on here would be even better if people would simply post their opinions and comments rather than slagging off other posters and our managers.

When AVB played Gareth Bale at left back against QPR, Was that an obvious error? Yes. AVB admitted this himself even though we won the game.

Managers make obvious errors many times throughout a season so it's not so much about us thinking an obvious error has been made, it's more as fans you can see an obvious error.

Your lost as you seem programed to immediately defend AVB.

We're all in agreement that managers make mistakes, the only difference in this debate is that you have no interest in accepting Avb methods may go wrong which is fine but others don't share that view and can pick out flaws in his tactics.

And as for Avb taking risks, you must be joking, he's no risk taker, if he was he would allow the team to express themselves more and instead plays the same safe system which makes us difficult to beat, but predictable and safe in an attacking sense.

Many of us make valid reasons why his tactics or subs don't work, yet the common response is based around ''gell''..so what's the point in discussing if posters blindly share one view? It's not much of a debate unless we're happy going round in circles!

I'm not programmed to defend AVB but I would say that he is the first manager since Bill Nicholson who I actually think gives us an edge over most of the rest of the league by attention to detail. He is also our most successful manager ever based on early results. His detractors seem to assume that if we did some things differently then that would improve us and everything else would stay the same. My view is that he has us set up to play solidly and goals will come later. If he changes anything now we could easily go back to our normal defensive record, drop points that way and slip down the table.
This whole thread is a classic example of of some fans misunderstanding what AVB is trying to do. You can't play AVB's tactics with traditional wingers for the reasons I posted above. If you tried to you would lose the ball more often, and the opponents could counter-attack more easily because there would be more space. The whole system depends on the wingers being narrow and the width coming from over-lapping fullbacks. What is going a bit wrong currently is that the winger on the side without the ball is staying too wide and not getting close enough to Soldado but that should be a tweak.

But I've only got just over a 50% chance of being right about any of this.....
