Having read what Ehab Ellam has said in that article, two questions spring to mind: 1. Do the Allams count Egypt as Europe? 2. Who is the current manager of Al-ahly?
McLaren is the target. He'd be a very good appointment, but will want guarantees around what he has to spend this summer.
"I can categorically say that at this time, I have not spoken to any manager about the job" That's slightly at odds with some statements made on here. Strov, stop being silly, it's not funny or cute. The article actually made me happy they're approaching this the right way, and contrary to popular(Ish) opinion on here, DO have football advisers. We really do not need a manager right now either as some are suggesting, the majority of the players are on their holidays.
So why didnt they go for him when he was available for free and interested? What has changed in the last 7 months?
Will be very interesting to see the short-list of managers they interview. And also what qualifications they are looking for in the new manager. Hopefully this whole process doesn't drag on too long so that the new guy can start sorting out the squad asap - so we are not being left behind by other clubs in the championship.
Or maybe the just misspelt Wikipedia, it's easily done. Just like sacking someone for no real reason.
I think NP was a good decision at the time and I think he brought some excellent players in with no budget. NB was planned to be the future - real shame what's happened, NB's honesty / naivety cost him. They want a Hull management team, Mclaren now fits the bill
Mclaren is almost 'one of our own'. Local ties. Media hate him, but the media don't even know we exist so that doesn't matter. He has United links. He's won things, done well in Europe and has good football links. He is also experienced in the dutch league which is something I think we as a club should look to get involved, commercially (preseason friendlies against Ajax/dutch dash on ferries - ill take cash or check as payment for that idea. We should aim to be the dutch football fans PL team ) as much as scouting/youth team tours ect.
I didnt mean instead of Nigel, I dont think McLaren was available then. I meant 7 months ago when Nigel left and he had been sacked by Forest.
It would be a great way for Mclaren to get back into english football and the prem next year?!? Question is: the way he has been previously treated by the english media would he even WANT to come back to the english game, esp as he's doing pretty well over there.
McClaren's got two years to run on his contract, he's only been there since January and he finished 6th this season, just 5 points off a European place. He'd cost us a load of coin and unless he's desperately homesick, I can't see him being remotely interested.
