I'm not far off 6ft4! I'm used to being taller than most - but the man is a unit.

I understand that it is the anniversary of the cup win and all that but surely it was a tad cruel asking him about the final when he was an unused sub. He must have been pretty upset at missing out.

His goal in the 3rd round was critical. I'd like to know what they thought about it at the time. My memory is that it actually came at a bad time. We were doing well in the league and we didn't really want the distraction of a replay and a long cup run.

I don't think it is. He didn't seem to be upset about it, and actually said how he actually enjoyed being able to watch. He accepted it was a team game, too.

At the end of the day, he attended the event, which was solely aimed at discussing the 1976 final - and was even arranged for the day of the final, 39 years on!

I understand why you asked the question but really don't think it was unfair or 'cruel'.

I didn't literally mean "cruel" although, of course, Jimmy Greaves had the same experience in 1966 from which he never really recovered.

It was always going to be between Fisher and Gilchrist even without the injury and from memory Gilchrist was one of our best players on the day.

Fisher was always a top bloke and a great team man. He would have seen the bigger picture and understood the decision.

Here's my chat with Paul Bennett: http://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com/...-musings?_ga=1.229612244.955684008.1399830441

I actually think Paul was the most 'interesting' interviewee. Very switched on, as perhaps is shown in his career post-football.

He spoke about his departure from Saints, compared McMenemy and Bates, talked about the new Wembley stadium, modern football and also about the Liebherr ownership, as well as the club's current situation.

A really interesting, and generous, chap.
