Internationals

He is dangerously overrated - but only by people saying he's on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo. He's very good (certainly better than Welbeck), it just makes me cringe whenever I see someone describe him as either **** or world class.

Well said Danielle.

Neymar is very good. He was on 17 goals in 27 games for Brazil before tonight. Here is a quote from Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently: "That's the way it is with the English. If you score against them you're a good player, if you don't score against them you're not a good player." Just about sums it up really. There are loads of better attackers than Neymar but he is very good.

That's pretty much what I think. It's absurd that so many people thought Zlatan was **** for so long.

He's playing against 2 Champions league centre backs now....

He's playing against two centre backs who've played in the Champions League Cahill even won it but I wouldn't say either are properly champions league quality (some examples in my opinion would be Thiago Silva, Kompany, Vidic, Sergio Ramos and Pique). Also I've had the view that Neymar is overhyped for ages. It's not just based on one game however this one game is supporting my point.

He's in the pocket of some relatively average Premier League centre backs so I'm not sure he'll do much against Champions league standard centre backs.

I dunno, I think he could play for a top team, I just doubt he would ever be an outstanding player for a top team like some people think he's destined to be. He could probably play for someone like Real Madrid and compete for a place with the likes of Higuain, but I doubt he'd score 30-odd goals in a season for them.

I agree. I've never really thought of him as much of a goal scorer (despite his impressive((ish)) record). I reckon if he focused his game on assists and being a winger/attacking midfielder who provides assists and flair then he'd be a far more effective player.

He does build a lot of his game around providing for team mates and creating attacks through flair, why are you talking about him him as if he's a Ruud van Nistelrooy-esque poacher?

Yes but how much did he contribute? I think that was mainly down to Lampard and Drogba.

Well he wasn't the team's most impressive performer, but he put in a series of good performances to help his team win the Champions League. Nobody's saying he's the best defender in the world but he was a very useful player in a Champions League winning side, I don't know what else you really have to do to be "Champions League standard".
