The great Gerd Müller scored 68 goals in 62 appearances for [West] Germany. Finishing was his art. He did fairly little else, but he was always there on the end of things. And in the end, it's goals that count.

Miroslav Klose eventually broke his record by scoring 71 goals in 137 games. These kinds of records never last for ever.

One day someone will break Usain's but you and I will be extremely old as this guy may not even have been born yet.

Dušan Tadic, José Fonte and Cédric
Serbia vs Portugal
UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier
Kick-off time: 5pm BST

Should be bloody interesting. Might try to find a stream for that.

Incidentally, I once came across an old mate who was playing for another team. I was playing in Tadic's position and he was Cedric, so to speak. I knew he was a better RB than I was a winger. Any pace I had previously had gone. But our friendship had been based on my ability to make him piss himself with laughter, so I made him laugh and kept making him laugh. After 30 minutes he was finished. My team kept feeding me the ball and I'd round him, a la Le Tiss [ie no pace, just bamboozle him] and I could hear him hysterically giggling away unable to tackle me, while I was just a couple of points back from the hysterical myself. But I still beat him every time. I think we blew the opposition away that night. The pub must have been good after. :)

Playing against a mate must be difficult. If I had played against a good mate I think we'd have been substituted for just trying to nutmeg each other all the time.

Big game for Steven Davis and NI tonight, chance for them to make a bit of history. Big game for Scotland as well but think they've left themselves too much to do. Wales should qualify this week, so 3 home nations this time?

For all the stick international football gets I actually think this qualifying has been very interesting with extra teams to qualify so NI, Wales etc. getting a chance. The Germany, ROI & Scotland group has been great to follow as well.

Players possibly in action for their nations on Thursday:

Maya Yoshida for Japan v Syria <yikes> at 2pm (Away but being played in Muscat :emoticon-0141-whew:)
Steven Davis for Northern Ireland v Greece at 7.45pm (Home)
Shane Long for Ireland v Germany at 7.45pm (Home)
José Fonte and Cédric for Portugal v Denmark at 7.45pm (Home)
Dušan Tadić for Serbia v Albania at 7.45pm (Away)
