Very impressed with Dier and Alli. Dier is what we have been missing for ages - composed and positionally aware. Really making a case for himself here. Alli as well - creative, strong, tough. Fair play.

Very good. Hopefully Hodgson starts putting round pegs in round holes. Stones has to be first choice centre back. Obviously it's a friendly and France were clearly not at it in difficult circumstances, but some good positives.

Still buzzing we made it last night! Typical I've stopped going to home games because of the poor running of football in Ireland by our FA, the only two I've missed in years were Germany and Bosnia matches! I'm a bad omen! Good to see your messages of support on here! Some couple of weeks of football For me. Saints on a good run, Ireland qualify for Euros and Finn Harps promoted to premier division after a 118th minute winner by a 17 year old! I believe we'll give a better account of ourselves than in 2012...Now to organise flights and accomodation!

Morgan seems to have gone backwards under the influence of Van Spoon Head's "tragic touch" .......................

Really? I watched 50 minutes and he was the one French player breaking up attacks and making interceptions. Just like I remember Morgan.

He lost the tackle for the first goal, that was about it.

Morgan, like Saints, is **** on TV! I always thought you needed to see Morgan live to appreciate him. The stuff he does "off camera" is impressive.

Of course, last night wasn't the best time to assess any French player. I still expect to be supporting "les Bleus" on July 10.

Let's not carried away by England. I still watched countless poor first touches from Rooney and we were playing a French team who really were not bothered by a football match.

The performance was good and I was particularly impressed by Alli ( whom I questioned his inclusion previously, still dubious but is certainly staking a claim). However, Gary Lineker's tweet after the match summed up what will happen next summer, when he said maybe 2016 is too early for the young squad but should be good for 2018. No Gary, you are wrong - if this team plays the best football, then play them before they are 'corrupted' by the negativity of the old guard as happens every tournament we play in! I still, unfortunately, expect the likes of Henderson, Milner et al to play major part in tournament - Hodgson showed his intent by bringing on Jones at the end, yet again! He is obviously desperate to take him - if tournament was in Spain I could understand as their is always a place for a donkey or two in the luggage!
Like a post earlier, it seems crazy to me not to play the back four Hodgson would like to start with in every game between now and the tournament - at least for the first meaningful 60 minutes of each game. Only change one or two of midfield/attack from starting line up to look at alternative possibilities, again for first 60 minutes. Now is the time to build a team identity - and round pegs in round holes please Mr Hodgson! Stones must play because he is the only centre back we have who can pass a ball and bring the ball out, oh, and defend too!
