Trouble playing 3 at the back, we end up with three centre backs behind the halfway line, two CDMs coming short to get the ball off them, and the two wing backs marked out on the touch line. Means we have basically at least 5 players behind the ball so our attacking players can get very isolated.

Don't think he's played well since Rose got injured. Rose will definitely be first choice at the World Cup.

    Gary Lineker

    Ex-England striker

If England are attempting to nil nil their way to World Cup glory, they’d better start practicing penalties.

No! Germany yes, then England won't have to face them until the final. If it is Russia, then there is every likelihood of facing our friends at an earlier stage of the knockout phase.

I've said for a long time the day we win a shootout we will go on to win it.

Both!! Face Germany in the group stage and then later in the tournament, the semi or final.

And Glenn Hoddle keeps up his unique way of commentating by saying ‘he can play both sides... left or right’ cheers for clarifying that one.

I think as someone else said, if Southgate has the stones to do something like this at the World Cup it’s good progress. Yes we’re goal shy and sit a bit deep, but that back line looks very good.

If we can sort out an answer to the question of who can play up front for us and score (and hope Lingard is never the answer to that question), we’ve got a good team in the making.

Given the ball away needlessly a few times, Dier, Lingard, Maguire, Bertrand

We just have to hope Kane can not go all Gerrard/Lampard on us.

I Iike Southgate, he seems to not be afraid to shake things up and also hopefully will start to bridge the gap between the younger teams too.

Some just want to slate the guy for some bizarre reason though.

Lack of experience from Abraham then. Those are the chances that kill games which we need to be taking. Clinicalness.

It’s because it’s England, we enjoy the self deprecation. I’m not gonna criticise because I’ve been like it before, but there’s still nothing like a World Cup and teams like tonight help restore a bit of belief in us as I can see the progress.

I wouldn't say I have belief as such as we always tend to perform well in friendlies against top sides. It's when we come to the crunch that it starts to go wrong.

I have hope of course, but don't expect much.

Looking forward to the draw and the tournament next year though <ok>
