Met a local on the beaches of Tobago who had a pro contract with Southend Utd, before he got injured at a young age. Nice lad, really good at beach football.

I was at a Portsmouth market once and was looking at football memorabilia including hand-painted plates. When asked what team I was looking for, I said Southampton...bet you haven't got those. She did, but they were under the counter :)

I met a man in his sixties in Cyprus who said he had played for Southampton and Everton. I identified him with with help from not606 fans...but have sadly forgotten his name again.

Jimmy Gabriel? Obviously not Alan Ball, and you'd know Mark Hughes.

When travelling in Australia about 20 years ago my brother and I went to the Australian Open and watched Tim Henman in a 5 set match (which he lost!). My brother wore his Saints shirt and at one point when it was completely silent someone shouted from the crowd. As the person shouted Go on... we thought they were going to shout Henman but instead they said SOUTHAMPTON! My brother and I looked at each other speechless, looked in the direction of the call and heard some cheers. All very surreal on the other side of the world!

My missus is Maltese so i invariably end up in Malta each year.

Many years ago i was sat in a bar on our regular quiet beach wearing my saints shirt when a small middle aged chap came up to me and said "This is 'southgapton' yes?"

It made me chuckle until he then went on to tell me his son had just signed for Southgapton.

Mr Pahars then went on to show me numerous pics of his son....

love that.

I also love Malta.

I've been in Serbia for 10 years now and haven't actually found another Saints supporter (it's tough being a racial/football minority). It's a bit like the ManU phenomenon in the UK here - everyone is either a Red Star or Partizan supporter and no-one goes to the matches. After 10 years of promoting the Saints if I can convert 1 person I'll open a Serbian Saints Supporter's Club! (there is one good thing - everyone seems to hate Chelsea and Man City!)
