About a month back Frankie Dettori was being interviewed. The conversation wound it's way onto the Cup where Frankie said Lloyd Williams had been onto him to make the trip to Australia for the Cup where he said he had a brilliant chance in the race. I wonder if it was the winner? Congrats to Swanny.
A cracking ride by Jye McNeil. "That's what Joseph wanted, he wanted me to be a step ahead of the field and really get them chasing, because what he (Twilight Payment) sort of lacked in class, he makes up for in his staying ability," McNeil said. "That's always the plan that Joseph expressed to me and I'm glad it worked." The first horse to lead throughout in more than 40 years. Condolences to the the connections of Anthony Van Dyck. He had to be euthanised after fracturing a fetlock on the home turn.
Thank you, Cyc, got cut-off before I could finish message a little after the race. Nice to get the winner of your great race, managed it once or twice before, but this is the first time I have ever seen a horse lead almost from start to finish. Young Australian jockey, Jye McNeil, is a real find and has a great future ahead of him. He gave Twilight Payment a peach of a front-running ride. The day certainly spoilt by the death of the Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck, a fine racehorse. Condolences to connections of Anthony Van Dyck. It is easy to be wise after the event, but looking at the form beforehand, the winner was possibly the only one with 14f. form? Many of the others had bags of excellent 1-1/2 mile form? Going by memory so please correct me if I'm wrong.
fantastic Swanny lad, you really are an unsung hero on here and you dont even try. second for me which is all too familiar with my gambling in recent months.
Thank you very much Gentlemen! Could not believe it when in the long final bend on this pear-shaped course he had the field strung out like a string of sausages? Knew damn well that they'd come at him at the finish, but he just held on. Thought second, third, and fourth ran terrific races. Tiger Moth had that flat spell, was it on that final bend, which probably cost him the race? Shame all the restaurants are closed in lockdown here. Will have to order takeaways from our "Indian"!
I see Kerrin McEvoy was fined A$50,000 for excessive use of the whip on Tiger Moth. Whacked him around 21-times in total, I believe. To his credit, McEvoy did not dispute the stewards' decision. However, his fee for finishing second in the race was A$55,000 so, no sweat! (Hope I've got that right, Cyc, did not recheck. I have never minded being corrected at all on the forum, but I did object to being rudely 'bounced' once by 'you know who' for an error due to my failing to double-check population statistics. Really pissed me off that, and I have never forgotten it. Ah well. )
All's good mate, you had it nailed. As for jumping all over folk for mistakes made in comments, none of us are above blowing it from time to time. It's sad that there are people in this world who, in an effort to inflate their own feelings of self worth, feel the need to denigrate others.
Just one thing, Pilgrim, I wonder if Tiger Moth will remember Flemington and the 21-whacks he received yesterday? Thoroughbred racehorses often don't forget and can be very clever, especially the high-class ones.
Personal, Coolmore's Fastnet Rock filly from a Galileo mare, taking out the G1, 2500m Oaks today at Flemington. Coolmore blue from gate 10.
An interestingly run race today was the G3 Ottawa Stakes over the 1000m course. A race restricted to 2 year old fillies. Dosh, No 3 in the bright red. Stall 8.
G3 Red Roses Stakes for 3 year old fillies. 1100m Written Beauty. No 6, from the outside stall. White and yellow.
