Behemoth, he monster from South Australia, lived up to his physical stature in winning the the G1 Memsie Stakes in Victoria today. No 7 in the black and gold.
Today in Bendigo, Subzero, one of the most loved horses in the country passed away from heart failure, aged 31. After his memorable win in the 1992, rain soaked, Melbourne Cup, and retirement, "Subbie" was enlisted as a clerk of the course mount where the adoration continued for a decade or more. 1992 Cup. The grey.
The 6 year old mud lark Channel Maker taking out the G1 Sword Dancer Stakes at Saratoga. The win in the $500,000, 12 furlong event took his soft track form to 4 from 5. Manny Franco rode the horse a treat. He'll be on the Derby favourite Tiz The Law next weekend at Churchill Downs.
Saw him after his retirement when I attended Royal Randwick Sydney Cup meeting (I had a 14-1 winner with another grey that day!)
Subbie was much loved Jana. He was taken to hospitals, aged care homes, schools etc after retirement. He gave a lot of joy. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Holy ****. What a horse. The brilliant Face Time Bourbon, winner of the 2020 Grand Prix d'Amerique, pretty much stamped himself as the best trotter on the planet at Vincennes yesterday in the 3000m 5 year old Championship. It was his 10th G1 victory. Yellow, green sleeves. No 17. He's second from the outside at the start.
And another big win on the same card, Go On Boy winning the G1, 4 Year Old Championship. No 10, white with blue stars. He's the inner of the two white coloured silks, out wide at the start. He drops in behind the red cap.
The Kentucky Derby replay. It was a great race, but I have to admit, American race callers really grate on my nerves. (Sorry about the whinge.)
Cleangame, one of the true heavyweights of global trotting, rolled into Vincennes to contest the G2 Summer Prize. No 9. White, black and red cap and sleeves.
