Just read the article in the Racing Post (www.racingpost.com) about the Cox Plate. The comments from the track bookmaker are a scream.
Small but fabulous field for the Prix La Haye Jousselin over 5500m at Auteuil (UK - 14.50) this afternoon. Milord Thomas aiming for its fourth consecutive win in the race which would bring it into the same orbit as Al Capone II. Past winners of the race include The Fellow and First Gold. Should be viewable on either ATR or Racing UK.
Melbourne Cup. Winner is 4 from the inside at start. Dark blue, white arm bands, pink cap. https://www.racing.com/form/2017-11-07/flemington/race/7/results
Here you go Kenny. The Prix La Haye Jousselin. Sorry about the full, phlegm throated commentary, but it was the only one I could find in English. How can one man get so much bile stuck in his neck and still call a race?
Cheers Cyc however managed to see a recording on Racing UK about an hour after the race on Sunday. Young up and comer (Bipolaire) very impressive, especially outstaying Milord Thomas. Wish it was like the 'old' days with Francois Doumen who used to farm the King George at Kempton Park on Boxing Day and also have runners (and winners) at the Cheltenham Festival. Was with my Mum at both Kempton (stopped off at Heathrow on our way back from Christmas Markets visit in Munich) and the Festival to see my favourite steeplechaser, The Fellow, win the King George and the Gold Cup respectively. I suppose there is more than enough prize money over the two Auteuil 'seasons' so that their best chasers do not have to risk visits across 'La Manche'. Great days! Not usually too parochial on the sporting front however congratulations to the Scottish trained Nakeeta finishing fifth in the Melbourne Cup; just over £100k to the owners.
I was as surprised a hell when I heard that Al Capone won the race 7 times in a row Kenny. Must have been an amazing animal.
Don't think the opposition was as strong as say in the last twelve years or so. Had to check but it would seem strange that Al Capone 11 never won the 'big' prize of the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris. Possibly the archetypal 'Autumn' horse!
I love this horse and can't wait for the Prix d'Amerique to roll around in a couple of months. This race was run 6 days ago in the G3 Prix Des Cevennes over 2700m. He's No8 and in the blue and pink.
After taking out the AU$10,000,000 Everest last month, Redzel today had the chance to confirm his status as the best sprinter in the country. A field of crack sprinters lined up for the G1 AU$1,000,000 Darley Classic at Flemington. He leads against the grandstand rail.
Difficult to say Cyc. Was that his first run? His sire was essentially a sprinter but did produce Fascinating Rock who won and lost against Found over 10.5f. His sire goes back to Northern Dancer and Ribot. The dam is by Galileo out of a mare that goes back to Mill Reef. Certainly promising if it was his first run. It would be interesting to know how immature he is and how much scope there is.
