@baraettmattesvensson My first England game at the old Wembley was a WC qualifier v Hungary in 1980. I have the programme still.
Just seen the Scotland team. The midfield looks very stodgy. I expect our interest in the World cup to end tonight.
Southgate’s England are just like him - bland & boring. He is the quintessential FA Yes Man. We will do absolutely nothing at the World Cup next summer. I can’t see Jordan Henderson getting his hands on the Jules Rimet trophy.
It’s staggering how average players like John Stones, Jordan Henderson & Raheem Sterling actually are.
They bask in the reflected skills and glory of great foreign players in the Premier League, then come to believe the rubbish that their agents and the pundits on sports radio gush about them. Raheem Sterling seriously believes he is the best thing that ever happened to football.
How can England go into a World Cup finals with a central mindfield of Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson It’s the Foley & Crofts of international football.
With the mass immigration of imports there are less and less quality English players over here to choose from. What people do seem to forget is that we have only won one World Cup. We have never been a force in international football. We have only excelled in European football at club level.
We have had very good England sides since then - look at Sir Bobby’s side in Italia 90. Shilton. Gazza. Platt. Waddle. Barnes. Beardsley. Lineker etc Apart from Harry Kane, how many of this desperate England side come close ?
The quality is there in the youth sides, but they’ll all be neglected for big name international players. Lookman is a decent example. Great start, but Koeman had a Chequebook to abuse and did so, and now ‘mola looks odds on to leave in January.
The bottom line is England have a complete dearth of quality in central defence & central midfield. When added to a very poor uninspiring manager, it points to an early exit next summer. Average teams will organise to frustrate us, half decent teams will beat us. I would hate to see Cahill & Stones come up against one of the really powerful sides.
