Rough and several others. I have his book, he was actually a terrific character who wrote (without a ghost writer) a genuinely funny account of his career, called The Rough and the Smooth. He opens the lid on the chaos of that World Cup, the SFA's meanness over hotel arrangements and bonus payments, and Lou Macari's threat to lead the players on a strike over these issues.

From distant memory FHB - I haven’t Googled it - did Scotland have Dalglish, Martin Buchan, McGrain, Souness, Jordan and McQueen in that WC side ? And Gemmill of course

They had Dalglish, Buchan and Jordan. Souness was there but Ally Mac in his wisdom didn't select him until the final game, persisting with the wretchedly out-of-form Don Masson. McQueen was there hanging out with "Jockney" Rod Stewart. I think McGrain came through later.

Fantastic holiday in spite of the team. Our tour guide only gave us one instruction "Don't mention the Malvinas"

    Then onto Espana 82 :emoticon-0148-yes:

Another cracking tournament. I can remember rushing home from school to watch England v France, turning the TV on to see we were already 1-0 up courtesy of the earliest goal in history from Captain Marvel Bryan Robson.

That WC was famous for the classic game between two top quality sides, Italy v Brazil.
Italy won 3-2 - Paolo Rossi, Tardelli’s famous celebration, Dino Zoff between the sticks <applause>

1982 Brazil played the beautiful football, Italy as usual just did enough. The only time they actually started like an express train was 1978 when they beat Argentine 2-1 in the opening game, and the Argentinians all thought Italy would win:emoticon-0127-lipss. Mind you, after THAT foul everyone was glad when they beat Germany in 1982.

Socrates for Brazil - what a great player.
Played with his socks rolled down & made the game look easy.

Wasn’t that the tournament when West Germany v Austria played out a bent draw they had agreed to beforehand ?

The ref gave a goalkick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not even a foul.

I have a feeling that Battiston never played professional football again.

    And smoked 20-a-day.
A draw suited both teams, so they both played out time for a draw. Bent? I'd say not quite, not like Argentina's 6-0 win against Peru in 1978.
And the ref should never have refereed again. The worst foul I've ever seen. Should have been done for GBH.

"We're on the march with Ally's Army,
    We're going tothe Argentine;
And we'll really shake them up
When we win the World Cup,
'Cos Scotland are the greatest football team"
stands out in its own way. Still makes me laugh.

Don't remember that one, but "You're my favourite waste of time" was about following Scotland. Can't remember the name of the band.
