He'd been placed on the opposite wing as the first man 10 yds in from the corner taker. Obviously a belief somewhere in England training that corners never go over everyone so it's not worth having a right back ready in position in case it does. Vin
One day, if I can stay awake long enough, someone will explain to me, to my satisfaction, that something special Jack Wilshere brings to an England side.
He doesn't TSS. The thing is though, he was an excellent prospect. He looked really talented at 17 and I for one thought we could build a team around him. Unfortunately it seems he hasn't developed properly and I think part of that is mostly mental and partly down to Wenger. If he'd been a United kid under Fergie, he'd have known what was needed.
You're obviously not on Instagram, Fran! Every other Fonte post is of his brother. Hourly pics of Jose and his brother - what are you waiting for?
England womens U19 team have to retake the last few seconds of their match against Norway after a refereeing error. We took and scored a penalty in the 96th minute, but it was disallowed for England encroachment. The ref awarded an indirect free kick to Norway, instead of ordering the penalty to be retaken. EUFA have said it must be retaken...everyone has to turn up again, though the officials will be changed. That's a first.
Did the result depend on the penalty Fran? Imagine going out cold on the pitch and your first touch of the ball is to take (or save) a pen. Scary!
This is hotting up. Norway and England both won today. England's superior goal difference means they will go through to the finals in the summer if they score the penalty in 15 mins time...no pressure then
Just shown the 25 seconds of action from the penalty retake last night. Flags were raised, paramedics on standby and the teams warmed up. England qualified as group leaders, Norway as runners up...Switzerland in third may appeal. Always someone trying to ruin a good story....I suppose they are saying that refs make mistakes all the time, so why was this replayed.
Does this whole business not set a precedent and give grounds for clubs to replay games, or parts of games, where referees have given the wrong decision? I bloody hope not, or no result would be safe. No offence to referees, Tom, but they simply can't get everything right.
I think people are missing the point, it's not just a wrong decision, it's the course of action the ref took. They awarded a FK for encroachment when it should of been retaken. So it's a bit different to was it a pen / wasn't it. More equivalent to a ref sending someone off for being offside - Okay that's an extreme example but I couldn't think of a better one. It's not a wrong decision, but the wrong way of enforcing the rules. I think that UEFA were perfectly right to order a replay & I'm not sure it sets a precedent as these situations are very rare.
Said to be the first time it had ever happened. Amazingly they gave it in our favour...usually give nothing to England. #massivechiponshoulder
