I’m getting the same vibes I got with the F.A. Cup Final City were massive favourites; Utd hadn’t been playing well, but were there. Utd executed a game plan perfectly and won comfortably. Kobbie Mainoo was central to that.
I'm English. I understand the significance of a nation that invented a game and 'owns' the biggest league in the world wanting to win a major trophy for only the 2nd time. It's a pathetic statistic.
But I'm also a football fan.
If England deservedly beat Spain on the day, then good luck and well done. But Spain has been the best and most exciting team in the tournament by far and almost on that alone they deserve the trophy.
Hopefully it's at least an entertaining game of football that does credit to both countries!

When it comes to the final of any tournament, the only thing that matters is the result.

That's as entitled as Liverpool's fans, and inevitably turns as boorish as Chelsea's
It's just a song, and a bit of fun in my opinion no different to me being at Priestfield singing Que Sera Sera where going to Wembley when the Gills are winning a 1st round FA cup tie. As football fans many of us are generally pessimists, as a fan of both Spurs and England the disappointments over the years have mounted up so I see '3 lions' as the ultimate song of disappointment, maybe if we win tonight it can finally be binned off forever.
Based on my comments above, yes, although if they play well then there is a good chance they will win.

It is not "just a song", just like Born in the USA is not "just a song" thanks to decades of being weaponised by people who apparently never even read the lyrics by insist on playing it at political rallies
And here's the thing: you hit the nail halfway through by saying it's a song about disappointment, since the song is about wistful optimism hoping just once England might not **** it, which is also why it got re-released for the 1998 WC after the official anthem was tubthumping nonsense from the Spice Girls - but that is not how the song has been used since the 2018 World Cup, it's become a tubthumping anthem of victory which only begs the question about how thick some people are if they miss the point of a song so simple
That's like saying Holiday in Cambodia is a pro-Khmer Rouge anthem because the bridge repeats Pol Pot's name over and over
