Other than France, I feel a lot of teams are either at the beginning of a new cycle or at the end of an old one, this is why I feel confident England can get far in the tournament even with their weaknesses.
They knock for Spurs for lack of silverware, with England it's 1966 since they won anything and I have had the misfortune to have wasted hours of my life watching their efforts. Unlike Spurs who at least played their best players England often don't.

Well he plays on the wing, if that answers your question. We need him, Rashford or Sancho in the team if you’re going to play Foden, Mount or Grealish wide, someone needs to be in the team who has the pace to get in behind playing off Kane. That didn’t happen so much today because Croatia are a very well organised team who dominate possession and England played in quite a pedestrian manner at times. I’d look for him and Kane to interplay more against the likes of Scotland which will probably be a faster game.
A winger? <laugh> Then I know little about this kind of football. He spends a lot of time dribbling in the box for a winger!

This feels a bit like Darren Bent with lots of clubs paying loads of money for what I saw as a mediocre footballer. Of course he did score the odd goal and that was more millions wasted by another desperate club. Like the guy in the crowd at West Ham I think who kept screaming stuff that he could do better so Harry got him kitted out at half time put him on and of course he scored <laugh>

Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest and “was gone” before being swiftly resuscitated on the pitch, Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, has said.

“He was gone,” Boesen said. “We started the resuscitation and we managed to do it. How close were we to losing him? I don’t know, but we got him back after one defib [defibrillation], so that’s quite fast.”

Christian Eriksen sends greetings to Denmark teammates from hospital

Denmark’s coach, Kasper Hjulmand, revealed the squad had spoken to Eriksen on Sunday and that it was great “to see him smile”, and Boesen praised the medical team at Parken, where Denmark played Finland.

“How quickly they reacted was decisive I would say,” he said. “The time from when it happens until he receives help is the most important factor. And that was a short period of time. That was decisive.

You have to wonder if Eriksen will ever kick a ball in anger again.

And makes me spend too much time dribbling in front of the TV

As Spurf said earlier, he doesn't assist Kane very much. In fact he doesn't really do assists. It's almost like whatever he does, it's "good" or "enough". There's no objectivity as he seems to be measured on a different scale, a scale where there will be no comparisons. If he'd had as good a match as Phillips the pundits would be drowning in smeg, but he scored so he's justified starting every match for the rest of the tournament - regardless of whether someone else would be a better option. The (many) things he did wrong and his minimal contribution apart from the goal will not be mentioned.

So yes I'm kind of happy we won, but that probably just hastens our exit at the last 16 stage. If Sterling proves me wrong then good luck to him, but he's taking rather a long time to do it. How many other forward players get over 60 international caps before their first international goal at a tournament? And this isn't me just trying to defend the indefensible. When I'm wrong I'll admit it, for example I didn't think Phillips should play, but I was 100% wrong about that.

Sabitzer has had a busy game, already bodied a couple of the Macedonians and just pinged a banger of a ball for the Austrian opener.

Spicy game this, quite open and both sides look very up for it.

Not a chance mate...would be madness after that.

Shame that his career has ended so early.

Questions about fitness expectations on players may need to be asked.

A lot of footballers have died very young or had heart attacks over the last 15 or so years as the game has got faster.

Supreme fitness has always carried a danger. A pint and a *** doesn't cut it these days.

It does make me wonder if Eriksen's apparent slow down in the last season or so was his body sending him a subliminal message.

It’s more likely to expose genetic or underlying problems or weaknesses, especially heart conditions, where strenuous activity may take its toll.
