Good point. Hazard came on towards the end and he clearly can still beat a man, but he had a few wayward passes and seems to have lost that yard of initial acceleration that he initially had. Given his fitness is likely awful too I doubt we’ll see him starting much unless maybe the 3rd group game if Belgium win the second.

Not a bad sub to call upon is it <laugh>

TALKING ABOUT LOSING A YARD,i was disappointed with Bale's performance,I know he was well marked but he didn't have anything in the fuel tank.

Wales just barely played through midfield and got out under so much pressure by a decent Switzerland team that their striker was completely isolated when they lumped it up top. I think they’ll struggle if they keep on like that.

Switzerland v Wales was about the standard of Norwich v Millwall so don’t be too critical

They’re reasonably comparable sides. Both quite solid but usually reliant on big moments from Shaqiri or Bale respectively to make something happen. Wales just got the game wrong tactically IMO.

There’s talk that Southgate’s starting Tripps at LB, 2 DMs and no Grealish...

****ing hell it’s gonna be like Aidy Boothroyd and the U21s all over again, isn’t it?

Don't worry they will leave Kane up front on his own with no supply , forcing him back into midfield supplying balls to .......errr Kane ......oh ffs

Southgate is like a church of England Vicar still believing in miracles and still churning out the tired old tosh. Typical of the FA to pick a man who fits in with their dated middle class values who is far more skilled at diplomacy than football. It's the same reason they didn't pick Harry or Clough two football men who were not afraid to speak their mind. The fact that they were the best available football wise does not enter in to it.

Still over 2 hours until kick off and some of you being negative already.

Have faith, football’s coming home <cheers>
We have a negative manager who is afraid of skill. He obviously thinks that making wriggly runs to no where is good football. Every time I have watched Sterling either for England or City he achieves very little, makes wrong decisions ALL THE TIME and spoils as much as he produces. Franny Lee all over again and the same club as well.

Apparently Sterling is starting. <doh>

I'll be pleased with that. He and Kane have built up a good partnership over the years. One poor season doesn't change his quality imo.

I'm guessing Mount's gonna be starting, which is a shame as I think Grealish is the much better pick in my view but I've been doubting Mount for ages. My Chelsea mate loves to remind me that I said Mount was the next Tom Cleverley <laugh>

**** knows what's going on if Trippier's starting at left back tho.

Foden and Grealish both excite me but to have them as an option on the bench is exciting.

Sterling brings experience as he’s seen it all and done it all before. Like NKNG says, him and Kane work well together.

Southgate is negative and probably does play more negative than he needs to but after the World Cup in 2018 he deserves to be backed.

I don’t know why I’m so optimistic but I really think England have a good chance of doing very well this tournament

I must have missed that

I must have missed the partnership between Kane & Sterling.

I wouldn't even have Sterling in the squad never mind the team. He is a classic fur coat and no knickers kind of player.

Reaching the semi final of the world cup is lauded as a great achievement for Southgate. I see it as an abject failure to take the chances presented to that England team. Both against Belguim and Croatia we were negative to the extreme. They were both good teams and might have beaten us anyway but to have not played to anything like our strengths is pathetic in my view. He should stick to selling crap pizzas.

2 holding midfielders and Sterling on the left. I thought Mings looked terrible in the warmup games too. Don't start me on Trippier at left back.
