Unfortunately the England football team has always attracted an element of the moronic side of the brains spectrum, mainly right wing thugs who like to pick a fight with anyone. These people are and always have been in the minority but they create a lot of the headlines and the rest of us, the majority who just want to support our national team like we support our club, get lumped in with them by certain elements in the media (mainly people who don't understand what being a football fan is actually about). In the past we have had so many false dawns, heroic failures and downright embarrassments but now we have a team that has reached a final of a major competition for the first time in a couple of generations why shouldn't we be excited and sing a song that seems to unite the fans, I am loving it and no one is going to tell me that enjoying the football and singing 'its coming home' makes me some kind of fascist.
I'm a bit torn on this one, as I don't think it's a penalty but I'm not sure that the officials got it wrong, somewhat contradictorily. I can see why the ref gave it and I can also see why VAR didn't think that it was clear enough to overrule it. Hmm... The Danish goal shouldn't have stood, anyway. Wasn't a free-kick and their players encroached the wall. Not sure if they affected T-Rex's view of the ball, though. Should've done better, in my opinion.
So did a fair few fans, in all fairness. Politicians and sport don’t generally mix in any genuine way though, IMO, and I tend to think that anyone who pays attention to a politician supporting a club or national team (or their lack of support) is just having their own biases confirmed.
At that particular time I was seeing about three Sterlings and about eight legs going in to tackle him so for me it was a stonewaller...
The Kane penalty shout was the better one IMO, and you’re right about the Danish goal. It’s nitpicking but by the book it could justifiably be disallowed, let alone the foul being given in the first place. A lot of people talking about the second ball on the pitch in the buildup to the penalty being given too, apparently it’s fine as long as the second ball isn’t interfering with play, which it wasn’t.
No but others from other countries find it offensive that England claims that football is coming home as if it is entitled.
My god social media has been toxic today regarding the penalty decision. We’ve now been charged by UEFA for the laser incident too. Whilst I personally think the penalty decision was a soft one, it’s one of those that we often see given. Sometimes for the team we support, sometimes against us. The laser pen situation needs to be dealt with accordingly. - stupid twat, with no brain. however, it’s interesting you point out the Denmark free kick that led to a goal. I thought all of their set pieces were rather odd last night, but the free kick was apparently an encroachment of the rules. When a wall of 3 or more players is made by the defending team, attacking players from the opposition must stay at least 1 metre from the wall, and Denmark had 2-3 players stood directly in front of it. - so it begs the question why that wasn’t picked up and how hardly anyone seems to be talking about it…
No idea what correct entries are, but Hojbjerg had a very good tournament. Hope we've got cover for him this time.
I am not advocating national anthems at all at least some talk about their lovey land and some have decent tunes unlike the dirge of ours.
If people find a harmless phrase from a song by a pair of comedians offensive then it says more about them than anything.
I'm not a fan of religion or monarchies, so God Save The Queen doesn't really work for me! The Italian anthem just makes me think of dressage, though. No idea why. please log in to view this image
MAY BE an insult (regardless of whether the claim is true or not) . Insult is in the MANNER OF DELIVERY.
I am not talking about it being sung by a pair of comedians though. But I agree your view says more about you than anything else, that's always the case.
I think the Italian anthem is a stirring piece of music that they always seem to sing with a passion that seems to set them up for the match.
It's a song about unity, brotherhood and being willing to die for Italy and it's got an upbeat tune. Much easier to get people to sing that with passion, in my opinion. Far more fitting for a team sport.
