Off Topic International Break Thread

It's a bit unusual of Rooney to announce his retirement 2 years in advance. What's the point? I suspect he thinks putting a time limit on his international career increases his chances of getting picked for the next couple of years.
I suspect that Allardyce'll be given his marching orders in 2018 to leave the door open for Rooney to replace him. That certainly fits in with The FA's bizarre fanaticism about Rooney.

Four goals and six bookings in the Holland U21s vs Belarus U21s, which featured among other things...
* A Belorussian attempting to connect with a diving header on a Dutch defender yet somehow getting a penalty for it for 1-0
* Some lovely trickery from Ricardo Kishna leading to former target Anwar El Ghazi's header to make it 1-1
* Neither team showing any competence for defending set pieces for 2-1 and 2-2

We've obviously had too much Premier League football after three games, so it's back to internationals.
Allardyce has picked his first squad and here it is:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley).

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Michail Antonio (West Ham United), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Strikers: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City).

No big changes, but Drinkwater's back in and Antonio gets his first call-up.
Not happy with those strikers.

Luke Shaw allegedly withdrawn for "precautionary measures"
(first "and so it begins" of the international season ?? ) .

Is there any FB in the squad who can start today ahead of Rose/Walker ??

A Man Utd player pulling out of an international game with a dubious injury? I don't believe it for a second!

Shaw's got previous anyway, he once ducked out of an international break a few years back due to injury and was partying until 4am in a nightclub in Guildford on the night of the game. Presumably the jagerbombs helped his recovery.

Which Spurs players will get slagged off for playing for England this weekend?

Four starters and Alli on the bench, presumably coming on at some point.

If you can change the on-pitch rules so that there can be more than one captain,
then the England manager can name every Man Utd player as captain for the
match well before the training sessions begin.

I wonder why they called up a player to be 3rd choice goalkeeper but didn't call up someone to be 2nd choice LB?

If I reference the usual Spurs lineup, which England player is playing
a role akin to :

- Dembele
- Eriksen/Lamela/Alli

Could do with some more of that from him this season.

Poor defending from Rose. Too many defenders pissing about when they don't need to.
