Let him get the job done as Derby wished they had instead of letting player power take over-

“Players that had been key in Derby’s decent run of recent times, but players that he felt had too much of an influence there. So it was time to move them on.

“So Chris Martin goes off on loan to Fulham, Lee Grant goes off on loan to Stoke City and Richard Keogh [former Bristol City defender] would have been the next one out of the door.



“The season doesn’t start well and the chairman starts to get a little bit twitchy about how things are going.

“He decides to back the players and not the manager, when it comes to a show of force. And maybe Richard Keogh had a bit of a hand in the force that saw Nigel Pearson shown the door after six weeks [of the season].

“An utterly absurd decision. You bring in a new manager you stick to that manager. Otherwise, what was the point in appointing him in the first place?,” asks Gibson.



The story continues as Chris Powell arrives at the club as assistant and is set to replace Pearson only to find that Steve McClaren is wanted instead, having previously done well with the club.

McClaren wants Chris Martin to return from loan at Fulham but the Cottagers aren’t having it. Despite agreeing a “hefty” new contract to keep Martin at Pride Park for the next years, the striker remains in London for the entire season on loan and is not useable for the Rams.

“And by the time he [Martin] returns from that loan spell at Fulham, the manager who so desperately wanted him back has been sacked, replaced by Gary Rowett, who wasn’t that fussed about having Chris Martin,” continued Gibson.

“Now how many hundreds and thousands of pounds have been wasted in that short spell? It’s a microcosm of how to get things horribly wrong when you’re running a football club.



“If you appoint a manager and you know it’s going to be a bit of a rough, old shakeup time, that’s why you appoint Nigel Pearson. And if you appoint him, stick with your plan.

“Stick with your plan, like Brentford did. Don’t stick with it [just] for a fortnight, or six weeks. If you have a plan and it’s getting a bit twitchy and the players are moaning, back the manager, the man you have just put in charge,” he said.

The Radio Derby reporters went on to discuss how some players at Pride Park had too much power but something there for the Lansdowns to heed?
 
To be fair to Landsdown, he does stick with a manager if he sees progress. DH aside, I think even he knows that was wrong in his heart. LJ was given a lot of chances, as was Steve Cotterill. Thankfully SL is not of the Cardiff, Leeds, Watford owners mentality where they fire managers every half-year, so he will back NP to the point NP doesn't deliver, as he did with LJ and SC. I'd love to know how close SL might have come to pulling the trigger if Reading and Derby didn't have their points deductions...:emoticon-0125-mmm:
 
Our season could have been a whole lot worse without those points deductions you mention supcon and I think the plug may have been pulled if we were languishing close to the bottom three. I am somewhat disappointed that Pearson didn't get more out of what was available to him but on a more positive note things have looked better for the last few weeks and we have to hope that is a good omen for the future. Nigel has a real job on his hands and now he can work on that project through the summer without the millstone of relegation messing up the mix. Forget about what got us in this mess as the only thing that matters now is what does the future hold so we just have to believe in our manager and his ability to clear out the dross, and the high earners if possible, to make a more stable platform for improvement especially in the defensive areas where our failings with late points given away has to be a priority.

The supposed statement of intent with the signing of Palmer has long since vanished down the drain and he has to go but is there anyone out there willing to take on a self centred over paid player who is so far up his own arse that it beggars belief. Surely there are better players available for less money but where you find them is anyone's guess and Nigel has a difficult balancing act ahead of him so I wish him the best of luck.

You can understand why NP came out with the words STRANGE CLUB.

He knows the issues called out the Lansdowns and said it how it is-probably said back me.

This guy is no fool -he has seen it all as a very very successful player-captain-Manager.

It's certainly true that some clubs hire and fire managers far too quickly, but this article also leads me to think that we should have given Pulis more time - after all, he did well for Stoke not long after he left us. Maybe we might have experienced the Prem already if we'd stuck with him?

Interesting, what success is it we/he have had, I must have been asleep since August and missed it all....? Avoiding relegation? Setting a very very low bar and only achieving it through others points deductions is not success in my eyes, especially when a previous manager was not considered successful for far higher league finishes than NP has had.

The topic was referring to the ladies team and how much help Nige and his team has helped them.:emoticon-0148-yes:

Correct, I’m not really bothered what other people say about us, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, this summers deals and how we perform next season is all I’m worried about. This season has turned out pretty much how I expected, next season we need to ‘push on’. Realistically next season for me will be safe mid table, possibly threatening the play offs, but ultimately finishing 7-13th, anything better a bonus, worse a failure.

I agree that we have been scoring goals this season - and credit to Nigel (and Weimann) for that.
There is still a lot to fix though - conceding in the dying minutes of the game for example.
