The point remains. The squad needed a major overhaul, you claimed otherwise. You were wrong. The club gave Moyes Fellaini and you blamed Moyes for not getting the players we needed. Well, we've now spent hundreds of millions on players so they can play out of position and we're still ****. How come van Gaal isn't to blame?. He's clearly not bought the players we need. His fault surely.
Who said he isn't to blame? I would argue he has bough who we need. Just maybe not enough in some areas. Another centre back would have been nice but how was van gaal to know Evans, Jones and to a lesser extent Smalling would be awful? The one he bought has been our best this season. I also don't see how he can be blamed for the injuries. Out of his hands really. Nor do I see how he can be blamed for trying to teach the players. For too long we played a simple game. Moyes tried to continue that with little to no difference to under fergie. It didnt work. van Gaal is challenging the players. Is it working? Certainly not with some of the players. The centre backs who seem to panic and hoof it or worse, pass backwards. I doubt thats what van gaal has instructed tbh. His face when it happens suggest not. If it ever gets to the stage it did under moyes and all hope is gone. I will be first in line to say van gaal out. It won't though and its never even come close. No idea what the panic from some united fans is. Weve lost once in 13 games without playing all that well. We are better off than last season in every way possible but there is still plenty of work to be done.
I'm certainly not panicking, I said earlier in the thread my gut feeling is we'll come good. It's just some of his selections are utterly bizarre and we can no longer claim it's down to injuries as very few are now injured. What you say about our Centre halves? That also apples to Moyes. They were **** for him too. It's the double standard's I don't agree with, that's all. One last thing, the simple football. We won 13 league titles and two cl's under fergie playing simple football. Never with three at the back. If it ain't broke, don't **** about.
You will. Not just because LvG is a better manager (which he is), but also because you have the money to just keep buying players endlessly until you get it right. Simple fact.
UIR I remember you saying at the half way stage that you can only see us getting more points than in the first half bcos our performances were improving. I agreed with you. But since then our results and our performances have got worse. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the way the defence has played in our last few games. There are no long balls. The CBs are coming forward as are the full-backs. The problem is what's happening with our midfield and the complete lack of any rhythm in our play. Why is our midfield holding back, not taking advantage of counter attacks? Why is there no emphasis on pace? Everything is pedestrian. Why are they passing sideways and back, not taking on players??? Possession for the sake of possession is pointless. And WTF is going on with team selections and formations?? I don't blame the players at all bcos I believe everything they are doing is down to LVG. Either bcos he's instructed them to play that way, or that they havent a fcking clue what he wants. Either way someone needs to have a word.
Our football since 2010 has been awful. Before that we played a very different game. van Gaal is addressing that bit unlike his previous clubs, most of our players are learning something new. His team selections are baffling at times. At first anyway. More often than not they kind of make sense, or you can see what hes trying to achieve. Rooney in midfield. Its obvious why he is played there. His energy and ability to get from box to box. the big question is why not just play Herrera there? Hes clearly our best midfielder. Di Maria being played out wide or as a striker is also a head scratcher. Obviously its for his pace up top bit anyone who watches football knows Di Maria is a creator, not a goal scorer. Hes decent on the wing but needs to be LCM to excel. Sure we will see him there more often than not in the long run. On the centrebacks. It's not that they are not playing. They are. They have done very well tbh. Its been at the cost of the midfield and attack though and shouldnt be the case. They dont take risks. This could be down to van gaal or down to them.
