There is so much misinformation flying about. Someone is now claiming that the sticking point is who gets the claw back from the Gomez and Lookman deals. Wigan are currently being sold to Hong Kong buyers for £20m - they are at the top of the league and still in the FA Cup and have players like Powell and Grigg. How is Wigan worth £20m and Charlton worth £45m
The Nightclub thing can't be far off because he never spoke about us in football terms, only as some sort of social Club....Remember when he said 'winning was not important, it was all about meeting up with friends' . Wasn't he planning to build property around The Valley, but his lapdog messed up and never found out about clearance or something. I'm vague about detail, but a Leige fan messaged me ages ago, and said this is what he would try and do.
You'd have to pay me at least £25m to live in Wigan, so it stands to reason that the town's football club will always be at least £25m cheaper than the majority of its southern rivals. I think that's what Lardiman was getting at in his previous post.
Wigan Athletic are never going to win the hearts of many 'neutral' football fans, as their town has no sense of historical romance within the game (unlike Huddersfield or Preston for instance). What they do demonstrate presently however is that even in a glamour-free northern town which has never even regarded Association Football as its first sporting love, a Club which employs people who know something about EFL football and have a passion for it can still hugely out-perform Clubs of a similar size who are owned and run by bunglers who don't know what they are doing, and don't care anyway. Wigan have just knocked the billionaire Premier League Champions-Elect out of the FA Cup and are seriously threatening to walk away with the League One Trophy when they have played their games in hand. Duchatelet's CAFC are acting like we are back in the Big Time and our fans never had it so good, because we have regained a toehold on 6th place by just about beating MK Franchise.
