A bit more about Charlie Gilmour: Gilmour, who was nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy award this week, idolises Arsenal hero Santi Cazorla and Norwich will be hoping he ends up being half as good as the two-footed Spain international. “I use both feet and am developing my skills with Santi as a model," he told Football London. "Santi has such quick feet and can go in any direction – that’s why opponents don’t know what he’s going to do.” Unusually, it seems he can play at either DM or AM and that could prove to be very useful.
Last summer our business was as follows: Buendia 8/6/18 Lietner 26/6/18 Pukki 30/6/18 Marshall 30/6/18 Passlack 2/7/18 Rhodes 10/7/18 Krul 24/7/18 So very little early activity, but what a bit of early activity! No lack of faith from me, just speculating that the haggling might have got more difficult this year when on a budget. villa mearly illustraite what can be done, not whether it should be done. Would just have been nice to have a new unheard of jem to get excited about on a dull Monday morning. Bah!
The dates are interesting and reflect what was said earlier. We might have Gilmour on board soon and if Gary Gower is right, Rhodes as well. Looks like the continentals won't be announced until the turn of the month. That's 12 more days then.
Another rumour: " City have agreed to a £300k fee with Rochdale for Adshead, who is 17 and turns 18 in September", according to Peter O'Rourke on twitter. Meanwhile Wessi is going on trial at Cambridge, that makes a lot of sense given his desire to stay in the area.
This is now a done deal, officially announced by the Academy twitter page. Clearly one for the future then! Edit: Looking at Rochdale's social media is entertaining. They're desperately selling that he's going to the Premier League (and not our academy then probably out on loan...), and their fans are calling the rumoured £300k fee "criminal". Sounds like smart business!
Technically gifted little Centre Mid, would be an interesting signing. Reminds me of a Godfrey/Thompson type signing. That would be a lovely little move for Wessi. Thought he's play at a higher level though. Would be a massive signing for Cambridge.
There was talk of a £1m deal to United not that long ago. Think he could be another Maddison that we have stolen from under the noses of a few "BIG" clubs, who were sniffing around. Great buy imo!
Just need back up for Max and ST to challenge Pukki now. Oh and a DM to rival Trybull... £19.7m left to find them! I genuinely think we could do well if we manage to find a gem in DM and ST
A Striker on top of if we get Rhodes? I think even if Rhodes signs on loan or Permanent. I think we are a striker short. Not seen a striker we've been linked with that I really fancy. Jay Rodriguez would be very good, and for the price talked about. I just don't think we'd pay the wages he'd want. Back up for Aarons. I really loved the link to that RB who was a Real Madrid ex youth player. Can't remember his name now.
Absolutely! Back up for Max- Daniel Opare? DM to challenge Trybull ST to challenge Pukki and Rhodes (Srbeny to go on loan to League 1 or abroad). Opare is for sale around £0.5m and Rhodes would probably be around £5m which would leave us with around £14m (ish) for the DM and 2nd ST! We could get two decent players for that!
For the Sun, this is a fairly good read about our latest addition: https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/7815330/dan-adshead-rochdale-barcelona-bayern-munich/ Interesting line in there: “What’s most important to me is I’m getting game time in league football, not playing in academy games. My experience shows you don’t have to be at a Premier League academy to make progress in the game." For him then to be announced by the club's academy twitter feed seems somewhat ironic. Looking at his stats last season, he made 10 League One appearances, predominantly between November and January. After that he was mostly an unused sub, or not in the match day squad. It looks like Rochdale signed a couple of midfielders in January who displaced him. I think we've surely got to be looking to loan him out to League One, or perhaps another one for the overseas route? Given the number/quality of clubs he's supposedly turned down, we must have presented him with a very clear idea of how we'll get him league matches.
I have a feeling there could be a young and older feel about this window. RB: Daniel Opare or Mehdi Zeffane? DM: Marvin Bakalorz or Charlie Gilmour? ST: Jordan Rhodes and Kwasi Wriedt? Josip Drmic and Max Phillip are other striker possibilities.
