I'd be amazed, that if we didn't even bring him off the bench regularly last season, even in the Cup. That he would stick him in, in the Premiership.

I have been expecting a loan for him. After seeing much more physically advanced and more experiences Carlton goes to League one, it would be interesting to see where we would aim to loan Idah. That would be a mark of his natural ability and potential. If he doesn't get loaned out, that is an even bigger mark made by the people in charge.

Well I was amazed by both Jamal and Max going straight into the first team squad without a loan first. That's an indication of quality and some good coaching staff judgement. IMO, Maddison would have done that if DF had been in charge. The quality of our U23 players has increased with Academy One status and I'm convinced we'll see more breakthroughs, even in the PL. The next indication will be who's called into the squad for the pre-season like Aarons was last season.

In the Championship though. In, what you could say was a bit of a "start again, write off, lets just throw things in" type season.

I agree with your point. Would you throw someone in the Premiership like that? Stick Idah up front at Man City? He'd probably not touch the ball once.

Aarons came in for a cup game and impressed and then retained his place. I could see that if Rhodes was starting a cup game and Pukki was injured or rested, Idah would offer a quick striker option on the bench in Pukki's absence. The key will be whether Idah is included in the pre-season squad. Obviously it's going to much tougher to do in the PL but I could see it in a cup game.

DF has underlined the reality of this transfer window in the EDP:

    https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-daniel-farke-maps-out-transfer-aims-1-6065933

I like the realism of that and the emphasis on the team spirit that made us so special last season:

"The last two transfer windows we have had to do a lot of work. We have all our key players under contract. It is not like we need to sign 15 players or do an unbelievable amount of business," said Farke. We are in a good shape. It is more about planning what players we can bring in and what is possible. My feeling is we are in a good place and I trust Stuart and I am convinced we will have a competitive group of players. We will stick to our plans and principles. We know where we are in terms of spending money and salaries. We will try to work with the tools we have. That is no guarantee, but there is no other option. We won't risk the long term future of the club."

Some of the budget will have gone with Klose's new contract and the same will be true if Rhodes signs on. We can either spend what's left on a RB and wide AM or spread it out over more players with some on free transfers or loans, but bargains will be hard to come by now that we're a PL team. As DF says:

"We must not lose our nerve and just sign experienced players for a lot of money, and we can stay up for maybe a year and the second one we are relegated, and then we are under the same pressure as before and have to sell your best players. No, stick to your principles and be cool."

I suppose that means we have to be cool as well, though he does finish with:

"I made it clear when I signed a new deal the aim has to be establishing Norwich among the best 25 clubs in the country."

We are there now, we just need to make it long term now.

I read the PD Article this morning Rick re DF's recruitment plans etc.
IMO, the most telling comment was - when DF says we may go several games without a win, but we have to hold our nerve!! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Decent DM and Vaulks was Rotherham's top rated player on WhoScored, where a rating of 7.2 in a struggling team is an accomplishment, as is 7 goals and 7 assists in a low scoring team. One year left on his contract, so it must depend on the price if we are interested.

Didn't we sign Grant Holt from League Two? That worked out all right in three different leagues. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Depends on the players I think. I know he’s exception rather than the rule but Rashford was a youth player not considered part of the first team, hadn’t had a loan, when he was called upon in an injury crisis. He stepped up to the plate and established himself from that moment on

I'm going to start a rumour, Peter crouch, one season deal with the option of a second season as a super sub, great for the dressing room too

They're both good players who are also versatile. Ajayi is a CB who can also play DM while Vaulks is a DM who can also play as a CM or CB according to this Sheffield report:

"Although he plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, the Welshman scored eight times and provided seven assists this term. Vaulks also showed his leadership skills and was often captain. While often used in midfield, his versatility means he can also play as a central defender. Vaulks also made his Wales debut in March. He has two caps to date."

I'm also inclined to favour Ajayi for his definite defensive skills. At 6'4" he's also has aerial skills in both boxes and has scored 8 goals this season.

Can't see SW and DF going for that on those wages (see DF's remarks on older players for one season). Ajayi could provide a similar aerial threat and be a potential starter as well (see above post).
