There could be something in this. He started as a striker and then became an attacking midfielder and has done well at Wigan. At 25 he should be coming into his prime and on a free it'd be good business. Has had some injury problems though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Powell
Yes please! He is such a class player. I wanted us to sign him from Crewe! Young, English classy, technical player. Will be a lot of clubs offering him a contract!
Heard a strong rumour that a Chinese super league team have put in a strong bid for Duncan to do their match day threads. Also that he is planning a trip there to review their offer.
New rumour about Polish CB: https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/04/...ty-battling-watford-to-sign-pawel-bochniewic/ It looks a possible SW signing but Watford are also interested and it also comes with a HITC unreliability warning.
Apologies for the Daily Mail link (and it probably is a load of bollocks) but: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...id-wasted-spending-Premier-League-return.html If it is true, not quite sure how I feel about this - I’m very happy with the idea of being careful and agree that sticking with the squad style/culture we have is the best policy. But fixing a number seems a bit of a gimmick.
The way I read it is they are working towards a total spend about 20m, not that that figure is set in stone as suggested by the headline. I think the nucleus of the squad needs to stay the same and I think retaining our team spirit will be much more important next year than any new signings.
I don't believe it is set in any rigid way, but I can believe it as a target figure. I guess we won't go out and smash transfer records, but I think there will be a shopping list for certain players and positions, to get those players you need some budgetary flexibility or the squad could be half baked for a tough season to come. (Think Klose arriving in January instead of at the start) If rumours of Greek internationals with other suitors are to be believed, then we must be a little flexible to get who we believe is necessary. For me still, an upgrade on Krul would be a priority. To do so in the ENglish market would almost certainly require a smashing of our transfer record. Again I would imagine we will find value abroad in GK and all other positions. The big worry and requirement for flexibility comes from the possibility of having a player swooped for. Godfrey, Arrons, Pukki, Emi and Lewis could all attract suitors with deeper pockets than us. Bah!
This is the way I see it as well. SW has suggested that we need 3-4 new players (probably depending on versatility). The PL limits squads to 25 players and we currently have 23 (not including Husband, Pinto and Passlack). Marshall will probably move on as he doesn't seem to fit DF's system. I presume that Rhodes will be one signing if he stays and our other priorities are RB, and one or two new wide player(s). McGovern signing a new contract means no new GK except a promising young one IMO. I also wonder whether we might play 3 at the back as well, considering that we have two natural WBs. That could require a fifth CB. All that could be done within £20m IMO.
I think you must be right Melchett, Canario, RER And thinking about it I’d be very happy with three/four signings of £4m-£6m or so each - that’s still a decent fee and I trust our current scouting system to keep having a reasonable hit rate on successful purchases
expressed myself wrong. I am sure Heisse only joined us to be our number 1. His pedigree would suggest that, so, where would this leave Lewis. I may have everything wrong (not for the first time) but I cannot but help being a little puzzled by this signing.
