Kelvin Mellor... 6ft 2in...23yr old defender..........released by Crewe A after 6yrs and quite a few loans to non-league clubs.....played 90 odd games for Crewe.... including the winning Div2 play-off final, so has Div1 experience......maybe Sheridan feels he can get this lad performing for us. PS.....2yr contract.
Seems like another exciting prospect to me-big young(ish) and should be quite pacey. Coupled with the news that the grandstand will remain open until ,'the three stars align' its all looking good for august.
The Grandstand will remain open until somebody else comes along with a building plan other than Brenty........Could be a while then. This signing again seems sound enough and still goes with the talk of having a go for it this time around. I hate this time of year or rather the first few games of a season. Argyle always seem to have a load of new names, none of whom I can remember until halfway through the season. I'm getting too old to do memory tests every new kick off. Bring back players for life. You knew where you were for seasons then.
Helo Jans, Back online but need a username change to Chinajan. Hate to say it but anyone who could not see that coming could not see a football kicked straight a their dangly bits from 5 yrds. Great decision in releasing Mr Young,. at the same age we recieved Connor. With good coaching Luke would have been a far better player than CH, and I am a supporter of CH. If we had a Man City budget our manager might be successful but God help us now.
Plymouth has signed James Bittner a 32yr old goalkeeper... as back up for Luke McCormick.....been around but hasn't any significant career to wow us with.....has been given a 1yr contract. Sheridan is definately staying away from loanees this season.....a reserve goalkeeper I thought would definately have been a loan.....but not so.
Maybe the thinking behind this cheap goalkeeper option....is to maximise on a decent mid-field purchase....lets hope so. James Bittner will also be working with the youngsters......so maybe two for the price of one....he has been coaching at Salisbury.
Fine with this as he isn't going to get a game anyway. Cheap is good. Can't see the point in borrowing a keeper or indeed a higher club lending one who isn't going to get any experience.
Sheridan had refusals from two more mid-field targets yesterday.....one coming up with the usual answer....that Plymouth was too far.....the old chestnut.....last stop before America of course.
Easy excuse and not one we aren't used to is it. If they didn't have another option then they would be knocking the door down and it could be twice as far. Don't care. If they don't want to come then I never wanted them in the first place.
I see Jake Cole has signed for a Conference side. Whilst I never really liked him because of his lack of command of the area, I'm a bit surprised he has gone non league. As a shot stopper he was very good and probably a bit above that standard. However, nobody has jumped to get him in the league so perhaps Sheridan wasn't that daft in off loading.
Trialist Norburn signs on a one year contract having impressed Sheridan in a couple of friendlies. Ex Bristol Rovers. Reports elsewhere suggest he did well enough in the 2 friendlies and looked half decent although bearing in mind he was looking to impress. Not fulfilled potential which is something I keep hearing about Argyle signings. He has been given the No.6 shirt so if he hasn't fulfilled and can improve as Hourihane did in that shirt then he will be ok. No nothing about him so will have to wait and see as with the other signings. Suspect this might be it for signings now and perhaps a couple of loanees might be the rest of the squad from here on in.
Hi to all...I have just signed to Argyle World so will be able to listen to the games on the computer...which means getting up at 7am again.. Look forward to chatting with you again...
Lets hope that Sheridan can do something with Oliver Nurburn that know one else as yet done. Not a noticeable record as yet......he hasn't made waves anywhere at present.....young enough to be a possibility.....lets hope so. To be honest I was expecting someone with more experience to spark off our mid-field. Three friendlies against lower league teams.....and goalscoring problems seem to be the number one problem still.....will Sheridan stop playing around with subs against Swansea and try and decide what his best line-up is......already injury problems with certain players.....need to hit the ground running in the league or it could be a struggle again.
I thought I might be the only person left out here and then two come along within 24 hours. I'M SAVED..... Lets hope you have something worth listening to BC. I didn't bother to say anything about the pre-season friendlies because they are up to now not really worth saying much about. A 5 - 1 tanking of a no league club and two draws against Conference(ish) opposition. Not much to shout about there and yes, the goal scoring bit is a tad lacking once more. From what I hear Morgan has been a bit of a waste of space so far for one. Get the feeling he is not what we need somehow. Still no point giving it jip before the fighting starts for real.
Not much going on at the moment, but it will soon start up.. Just tried to watch the opening ceremony of the games.. what garbage.. the scots cant do it like us!! Hope your all good Sensible and Plym, enjoying the weather!! I have up dated the prediction thread as i believe its up to me now as Gat as deserted us.. miserable Git
I don't get that excited over Athletic type stuff these days. Was a time I would stay up until the early hours to watch Olympics but not now. I don't know why they just don't legalise the use of drugs and be done with it in sport now. A lot of the big names fall from grace eventually and I almost believe that if you aren't taking something then you aint going to win much anymore. Even the Queen's horses aren't exempt.
Sheridan says that he is on the verge of announcing a defensive loan signing.....a couple of small points to be ironed out. This would be the first loanee for the coming season...... initially it would be to the end of the year Sheridan expects to annouce it at the beginning of next week.
It seems that this defenders club has decided not to let him go on loan. Sheridan had said that there where just a few loose ends to tie up.......that's a rather big loose end in my view....in fact it's probably one of the first things you agree on surely.
The reason seems to be that the parent club have picked up a few injuries and will nor release him at present.
