Still nearly a month to go but if we don't spend some serious money before the window closes this will have been a total piss take. What lessons were actually learned then Radz from last season's great escape because all I can see is you gambling again with a squad that is still short of the requisite quality to guarantee PL survival. Not good enough as it stands.
Doc, when you knocked up these figures, did you subtract the sell-on %age from Raphinha's sale that goes to Lens (whatever that was)?
No but then I haven't added in fees for Charlie and Shaks and Roberts plus the sales of Caprile etc. this is just a straight spend/Phillips and Rapha sales. Nobody has a scobby about the sell-on fee and how thats calculated as most based upon actual profit not the sale fee
My issue with all this is the words of Radz in an interview and the same thing said by Kinnear in a seperate interview. The jist was that we spent near on £100m for season 1 in the Prem and think we have enough to get through season 2 which is consolidation. But for season 3 we expect to spend the same again as season 1 for the next push forward. However the reality is for season 3 we have spent zero and are circa £20m in profit
Agreed but we needed Aaronson in January and it didn't happen. Sheer bloody luck that we're still a PL club which was one hell of a gamble and it's like they've forgotten that we needed Newcastle's help or we were down.
Perhaps the plan has changed due to us finishing a lot lower than planned? Maybe they aren’t willing to invest that much considering how last season went. Also we can’t attract the next level of player. I think a sensible outcome would to be buy a ST, LB and GK for a combined total of 40m giving us a net spend of 20m this season, have a better season and then go out next summer and spend 80-100m net. Then again as net spends go 100m for a team in our position is a lot of money so not even sure that’s affordable.
Leicester have a billionaire owner yet still insist on balancing the books and look whats happened now. Players running contracts down and walking on frees, players like Fofana wanting out and because they havent done what the did in the past players like Maddison and Barnes will probably go but too late in the window for them to replace them. The Leicester model seems broken if Radz is still looking to the Leicester model then we will deffo not buy Terrier because hes 28 and going to be a huge fee. The model is to buy quality younger players who will increase in value. I know we broke that rule for Rodrigo but he was the marquee signing to start the ball rolling
The Leeds squad has been updated on the website and segregated in goals, defence, midfield and strikers. 9 U21s within the 28 man squad which includes Gyabi, Greenwood, Joffy, Hjelde, Drameh and Summerville but not Sonny Perkins. So the OP has been updated knowing there could be Klich going and maybe a striker coming in etc
while you’re at it… change terrier’s age from 28 to 25… you add an extra year on every time you mention his age… poor lad will be getting his bus pass next week at this rate
Yeh bud he was 25 in March. Same age as roca and Kristenson. I think the feeling is that he’s too old for his value to increase much - if they’re having to pay top dollar for him. which might be true but I’m not so sure… if he had a few good years in the PL he’d be worth a few quid still at 27. Not like signing Rodrigo at 29. Guess it highlights the ‘investment model’ v ‘best team for now model’. We know orta is a buy young and hope to cash in guy. Which I don’t disagree with… We still need a team that stays up though! I liked terrier from the obligatory clips I’ve seen, but don’t think he’ll be the one for the reasons above.
