Injury update

Don't take my Pardew love in seriously mate. I think he did ok, no more. He was lucky to keep his job with some of his antics too. However he did because he was a good shield for Mike. He had a man who was willing to take all the flack for the problems he was creating. You had to remember he'd have had a limited budget for staff too. You do realise Sir Bobby Robson also appointed Carver with similar tag lines...

I just think the constant harping back to him is tedious and often exaggerated massively so like to counter act it a little. I'd like to think this coaching set up is better. However I also think if they get the same level of support in terms of funds for transfers, staff and have the same reins tied to them, they will struggle too. Thankfully we seem to have changed tack. We've allowed him complete freedom to get his staff in place and stepped up what we want (Pards would never have been given someone like Cathro - who it seems was targeted by the club not McClaren). We are seeing green shoots of investment in proper footballers too. If they go the whole hog and get these defenders in, I think everyone would look and think "yeah we could do something here". However if you had given Pards Gini, a new defence, I would strongly argue he'd have had us top 10. The problem was he was having his legs broken every Jan by selling the best and not replacing. The fans were sickened, he was sickened, the club suffered.

You can't blame him for players either. We were openly told on several occasions he had limited input here. It also seems harsh to blame Carr. Looking at this new signing, it looks like we were going down his list of options presented and saying "yeah we'll have him and him" - the cheap and injury prone ones! It all comes back to one thing for me - club attitude at the top. That filters through everything. Do you want the best or just to do enough?

So yeah I'd argue with anyone that Pardew did quite well with the resources afforded. However I wouldn't pick him as my ideal coach, or the players he was given as my ideal players. Or the staff he was allowed as the ideal staff. I just think our fans are hilarious, probably borne out of passion. They got all primeval on Pards without looking beyond. They would get wound up by his "over the line" interview. First thing McClaren said? "We've got to get it over the line yet"
