That's just cutting your nose off to spite your face, imo. He's still one of the best strikers in the league.

Not really, if he is deliberately allowing his contract run down his heart isn't in the club, and he could have a detrimental effect on the dressing room. His value reduces with every transfer window and if he misses pre season as Speakman suggests then he will need a pre season before he is up to speed, so he will effectively miss part of the season.

In my opinion the message that it sends out far outweighs the benefit of having a want away player taking a place in the squad of a replacement signing who wants to be here.

    All about opinions though.

If he is professional, and gives 100%, he should still be involved with the first team. It sends a bad message out if we banish him to the U21.

As I say, it's all about opinions and in my opinion it sends the right message and shows that we will not have a gun held to our heads.
I can see why people want to get him fit by October and into the first team so we can sell him to Stoke in January for a pittance though :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Eh? What message is it supposed to send? Players run their contracts down all the time, it doesn't necessarily mean there's bad blood, it just means club and player can't come to an agreement. Look at Gundogan at City. He's just played a crucial role in winning them a historic treble. In fact he captained them there <doh>. Are you saying City should have banished him to the U21s as soon as it became clear he wasn't going to sign a new deal? Madness.

There are almost no negatives to playing Ross if he's fit and firing, only positives.

As I said it's all about opinions, I am not asking you or anyone to agree with mine I am merely stating my opinion.

The answer to your question is the message it sends out is that SAFC will not have a gun held to their head by anyone, player nor agent. If Stewart wants away then let him go, if he wants away when the conditions are more favourable to him than they are to us then we should do our utmost to negate the effect of that. We need to replace him if he goes so why should he take up a squad place or get game time over his replacement.

What is madness is comparing our early stage of development with Manchester City, players will queue up to sign for them whilst we have to work hard to get the squad required for our progress

I just don't understand all this "gun to our head" stuff... what does that mean? He values himself at £x, we value him at less... "Fair enough Ross thanks for everything, best of luck in the future". Where is this "gun"?

Again, was Gundogan "holding a gun" to Man City's heads last season when he didn't sign the contract they offered? I don't think anyone in world football would see it like that.

You also said we should try to negate the negative effect on us... Surely refusing to play our best player is doing exactly the opposite?

I have qualified the reasons I hold my opinion in previous posts on here and I am not going to repeat them. You have your opinion I have mine, I am not trying to change yours and you certainly won't change mine. To be honest your opinion doesn't really interest me, certainly not enough to jump onto one of your posts to argue with you about it <ok>

Everyone needs to chill out about Roscoe. Nobody knows what is happening on both sides. What I do no for a fact is that he is a good guy from a good family, has worked his bollocks to get to where he is, has been ****ing fantastic for us, has been desperately unlucky with injury. Stop making stuff up and it will take care of itself. If he goes, so be it.

Let’s imagine that Ross is more or less fit to start the season or a few games in.

If he then happened to have some kind of injury within a month or so that keeps him out for a whlie I reckon nobody would want to sign him as they will be thinking he is injury prone and may well only play a few games, a bit like Huggins.
Nobody will buy him for big money.
At the moment others (and us) are watching to see if he gets fit again, is as good as he was before getting this bad injury and if he can get through half a season without getting any more injuries.

Until we know how he is everything else is guesswork.

If I was Ross I would jump at the chance of a new contract with us. Say 3 years +1 optional and that would give him security.
He can still end up being sold if he’s doing great so he gets a move and we get a better deal.
If he’s lost something he will still be able to do a decent job for us or he may be used sparingly.
If he comes back as good as before we could easily end up getting promoted which would probably mean he stays.
I can’t see him going anywhere this window and he will be trying his best over the next few months as that’s the type of person he seems to be.
The worst case is that he plays great, scores loads for us and we lose him in January (or he signs a pre contract, Rangers? and we get the rest of the season out of him) Not great but some positives in there.

I’d love it if he stays.

Not that they seem to get much info now mind. We get to know when they've signed these days.

    Good thing too.

Your right, he is one of the best strikers around but is an absolutely useless asset on the injury list

    Starting to clear up now.
Expect all our injuries back training with the squad in next fortnight.
Expect Matete and Pembele within 3 weeks
    Only Evans gonna take longer

I've noticed some clubs are starting to lose players to inury and suspensions.

I doubt that many have the strength in depth we do.
