So 5 games into the season we will be relying on our youth team for the remainder of it to pull us out of the ****? Its not right and its totally unfair on those young lads. Untold pressure is about to be heaped on their shoulders and you seriously think that's a good thing?
The only bad bit of the summer was not buying a CF to replace Carroll. Prior to deadline day, I think everyone was pretty happy with the way the squad was shaping up. Now we have a new scouting team who will revamp the scouting network
Speak for yourself anyone with half a brain knew Agger couldn't play a full season so we needed cover and Kellys injury record isn't much better. We could all see Enriques need for competition. Yes we all knew we needed more firepower and yet we were shipping people out not bringing them in. Here's a simple question. What the ****ing hell is this magic new scouting system going to change? BR had plenty of targets in the summer and of his main ones we managed to sign only two of them. Whether BR or FSG are at fault for the state of our squad I am past caring but the time to sort it was 6 weeks ago NOT half way through a bloody season.
Whether its a good thing or not, thats the situation we are in until at least january. Now depending on your outlook on life you can do one of two things when you are ut ina bad situation: 1. you can piss and moan or 2. You can look for the positives in a situation and try to get the best out of it. We still have senior players and its not like week in week out it is going to be our u21s playing. But im bloody grateful that we have got the young players that we do as they will give us something positive. Losing Agger is massive, but that is what we have been dealt.......Im going to try and be positive about it, because that is the kind of person I am.
I believe Rodgers said that the lack of a scouting dept had affected his transfer window (this may have been in the Echo) which is probably why he focussed a lot of his attention on players who already knew (Sigurdsson, Borini and Allen), rather than the unknown gems. A lot of our fans were complaining why we always seem to pay over the odds for players who aren't worth it - now we have a new scouting dept and the two Man City guys that joined will form the 'Technical Committee' who will report into Rodgers. Hopefully this will help us find more value in the market. I feel that FSG will be spending quite a bit in the January window - I don't think they can't afford not to.
Absolutely, they have been refreshing and are forcing the senior players to fight for their places..something we really need
But young players should be brought in as and when they are ready. Not thrown in because the ****wits running our club can't organise a piss up in a brewery You're right to be grateful Rafa and Kenny developed good young players but its still a total farce that they are going to have the burden of responsibility placed on their young shoulders after only 5 games of a season. In fact it's utter madness.
But if he had gone to City, He would not have gotten injured and would have scored a hatrick against us in the league game....Sods law
One thing I have noticed about Sterling and Suso is that they are not afraid of players challenging them - what I mean is that there was one instance where the ball was in the air and Suso was holding off Valencia, managed to keep the ball and pass it. Suso and Sterling are not the biggest players but they use their body strength brilliantly and are able to shrug off players. With Borini out, I think we could see Assaidi and Suso feature more ...
Agreed But let's hope that these youngsters are able to swim rather than sink. From what I have seen, Suso and Sterling have what it takes to challenge the first teamers -they don't look out of place. Whether that's down to the fact they are exceptional talents or if the quality of the first team is extremely low...
Maybe it is a little bit of both? If we was winning and scoring for fun then neither would have given a chance yet. They have gotten their chance because we needed to change things, that is just the way it works.
I know what you are saying....We just have to try and get the blend as good as possible so that the young players never look lost.... The best way to bring young players in is slowly into a winning team...However, if we want to develop our youth potential we cannot do this....We have too much youth talent and not enough games to bring them all in slowly. I am confident that Liverpool as a team this year will not finish top 4 or even fifth....But I am confident that the development of our youth into senior players this season is going to lead to the biggest impact of young players at a top club since beckham, Nevilles, Scholes and Giggs at United. There is no gelling peroid as these young uns come through as they have all been playing together for years......Good players with good relationships on the pitch with their colleagues (A la Barcelona.) The way i see it, We are a team of young players. Young players get better with experience... Therefore we are going to get better every week...... Last year i couldnt stand to look at games where i would see names like Adam starting...Carra in for Skrtel...it did my head in, and i knew we were going to lose before the game had started.... This year i feel excited whenever I see the lineup....Even if we are not ready to set the world on fire i still think we are in an exciting phase...... I say, play the youth til january. and by then we will have seen what youth really is developing to senior level and where the gaps in our squad cannot be filled....Once we have fully identified those gaps, FSG have to put their hands in their pockets and give us players.
Well, it wouldn't have been £23m worth because we would have needed another defender too. You didn't really need hindsight, it was blatantly obvious that Agger would break down again at some point. My stance in the summer was 'make it £30m' because it was Man City, if a foreign club had offered £23m I'd have taken it. My argument against people that said he was too valuable to the team to sell was quite simple really - if we keep him we won't have him for a chunk of the season anyway.
Mate I've rated Suso for a long time and he is undoubtedly talented but the issue here isn't about their quality its about the squad as a whole. We now have a long 3 months where we will be relying on underperforming senior players and young kids. Will we go 3 months with no more injuries? Where do we go if Suarez, Gerrard, Skrtel or Allen get injured? We are in a big fat hole and have no choice but to rely on the younger players and IMO the owners have a lot to answer for. This is their mess and they better damn well stand up and have the bollocks to admit it rather than blaming every other poor ****er as they have been for the last two years.
