Please do Bleakers could do with a bit of back up from time to time, other i get a little frustrated, don't know if you noticed. True JWM if you ask though fans, but you could also speak to Wigan and Bradford fans. He did a fantastic job at Wigan, really really good but a terrible one at Derby!! However if he was to go, Coppell would be a good fit although not too sure he would want a managers job now after he walked out on was it Bristol City and said he'd lost his hunger to be a manager? Not sure about Di Canio, no questioning he has the ability as a manager but there's a question mark over his temperament whilst its nice to see sometimes, I'd imagine he would upset alot of people in that way a similar to Jim!!
The last team he got promoted was nearly 10 years ago PTC! Football has moved on a hell of a lot since then and his last 2 jobs have been a disaster! I remember when Jewell was first being bandied around as Keane's replacement and I felt sick and bewildered. He is nothing like an Ipswich Town manager, whoever convinced ME that Jewell was going to be a great appointment needs ****ing shooting! There are plenty of very good managers out there that would love to have a crack at being manager of Ipswich. A stable club that wants (i hope) to progress and has a magnificent fanbase and stadium.
Also people can have a differing view and should not be subjected to insults...... I'm sure everyone on here wants us to be winning games and challenging so petty name calling is a little silly really it would be very dull if we all came on here and agreed with every posted thread. Oh and those that don't agree with me are idiots...................
JWM I think you will find that Coppell got a team promoted only a year later. And his last job was not a success!! I wouldn't say he is anything like an Ipswich manager, I'd say he fits the mould fairly well. Someone who likes to play good attacking football, whilst forgetting about the job of defending!! I just wish we would have sacked Keane earlier I said at the time a couple of months before he left that we should try and go for Pardew, unfortunately by the time he got the chop he had gone to Newcastle!! At the moment I cannot really think of any managers out there who we could realistically get.
We can't go on like this PTC, the same old ****e year in, year out! Jewell is not the answer surely even you can see that! Lets take a young manager from the lower leagues, one that has built a team from scratch and lets get back to the Ipswich way of doing things. Trusting in youth, building a scouting network that seeks out talent from Holland, Belgium, Scotland wherever! That's the tried and tested way of doing things not this short termist way of buying has beens! Shane Supple got it right when he left and his comments about the club then are still very relevant now!
Think of that match then compare it to tuesday or a lot of our other recent performances minus today and tell us we havnt made progress. My view on the team selections now the season is dead: i dont understand why everyone assumes leadbitter wont sign. he still could be an important member of the squad, the way i see it stevenson and drury are cover for each other leadbitter and hyam are cover for each other. the rest of the team are still mostly young, Carson is still living on his performances at the end of last season but is still being given chances Hyam, like martin at the start of the season, is being 'punished' for bad discipline Whyte is competing with cresswell everyone would complain if cropper was picked over alb for injustice to alb Lawerence has been picked for the bench The inclusion of Sonko today was a final bow in front of PR for him
I agree with you and would certainly like to see some sort of long term plan from the club announced in the summer!! But at the same time it will take time for Jewell to build those thing back up, the youth system, the scouting system and the first team. Burley took a few years to get us going and implement those things, these things take time. Though like I say would be great to see a plan for the club and i think this summer would be a good time to do this. For all we know they may have this but I think it would do them good to announce it as it would appease alot of fans.
PTC I've gotta say you dropped it down a level talking about Hoppers' family so those in glass houses and all that.
I was not insulting his family I was insulting him!! Really all this bickering and picking on people on here needs to stop its pathetic. Everyone on here is old enough to know better!!
this is one incredibly aggressive thread lads! must have been a depressing game for you. all i'll say, and you can all ignore this if you like, is that no team gets success unless everyone is pulling in the same direction. at best, it appears 50/50 with support for jewell, though its probably much worse than that for him, and if you get a slide like that i feel there is no way back. people have made their minds up and even if you win ten on the bounce, those people will be against him. you need a fresh manager, probably a younger one looking for a break higher up the pyramid, someone like tisdale from exeter, who can inject new ideas and build a structure to your club, at least in the playing staff. your club go round in circles every year, making the same mistakes. most of you can see it to be fair - if you lower your expectation by appointing a lower league manager, let him and your club put a plan in place for him to follow over say three to five years, all of a sudden everyone will begin to sing from the same hymn sheet because they'll see that even if results aren't quite what you require at a certain stage, at least you know what the club is trying to do. you don't have any idea what the club are trying to do at the moment. are they trying to get promoted next season? are they trying to stabilise the finances? both? looking to the future for players? you just don't know - thats not progression - thats chaos
Supers I would agree up to a point, although I would imagine that the vast majority of us would gladly see Paul Jewell remain at Portman Road if Simon Clegg left the club. He's really the man holding us back. I don't think any sane Chief Exec would've appointed Jewell in the first place. IF ONLY we'd stuck with Magic we all cry! We are undoubtedly at our lowest ebb in over 50 years and the noises coming out of Portman Road are all wrong. We need to improve and wages are being cut left, right and centre, albeit there has been no mention of Clegg taking a pay cut! The contract situation has been a farce for a few years now and we are still in the same ludicrous position this spring. Everything Clegg touches turns to ****.
yorkie, i think lowering your wage bill, as well as being a necessity, could prove a wise move for footballing reasons as it would mean having to work even harder to secure players rather than just throwing a wedge at them. players wouldn't be there solely for the money and you might start to see some progression of the youngsters as you can't just replace them with quick fixes. will be a positive for your club, i'm sure. as for clegg, its difficult to disagree with you - wrong man, quite clearly. i think he'll be gone after the olympics
You have got to begin to wonder whether the running of the football club is just a front for some dodgy Olympic dealings, I pray you're right Supers about him leaving. I'd rather go into administration and start again from non-league than carry on like this. As for the lower wages being a positive, giving youngsters a chance, picking up gems, we should be doing that anyway but we're not so I don't see it.
i think thats very extreme yorkie with regards administration! you can't possibly wish for that. i take your point about the youngsters but do you not feel that because your expectations are still high, the club may feel slightly pressurised into signing quick-fixes rather than blood them? just a theory - who knows! i got shot down for suggesting the olympic thing two years ago, hopefully with good reason but you do have to wonder why someone like that was ever appointed. your owner, and nobody can deny this, certainly has a murky side. anyway, just a few thoughts really - i think back-to-basics might be the best way. check out reading this year - no big names really but a great team ethos and excellent young manager - same with saints. they've both got big-money backers but they haven't invested heavily in transfers or wages this season* - its all about getting them to enjoy playing for the club and the fans, the rewards will come from that *i admit, they both had good sides to start from initially
I have to agree that the end of this season is the time to get rid of PJ. I worry about the whole business of PJ being in his last contracted year come the start of next season. Would ME/Clegg be happy to be going into the last knockings of next season with a manager in the last few weeks of his contract? Hardly an ideal situation, so this time next year PJ will either be in possession of a new contract or he’ll be signing deadbeats for someone else’s club. Keano was in his final contracted year when they looked at the situation at Christmas (relegation threatened) and got rid. So, I suspect we’ll persevere with PJ until next Christmas when ME/Clegg will decide whether to offer a new deal or change manager. The options, then, are have yet another disastrous start to season and make a change at Christmas, or hover about upper mid-table and be consigned to years of mediocrity under PJ. Neither of these options grip my **** in the slightest. I’ve mentioned Paul Tisdale before. He’s only 39, he’s marched Exeter up from the Conference to League One, but he looks like he’s about to take them back down again! At least he’d have a good knowledge of sub-Championship players. From the little I know of Lg 1, the MK Dons and Carlisle managers are making names for themselves. Curbs is still twiddling his thumbs…
jonah, not sure how much you know about tisdale but he's an excellent young manager (bizarre fashion sense though!). as you say, two successive promotions with exeter, no money at all to spend, and its only this season where he's struggled a bit, but having played against his teams in league one i was very impressed with the organisation and the fluid football they played. lovely team to watch - i think he'd be a good fit at ipswich but maybe his star has dimmed slightly by what appears like certain relegation this year. i'd like someone to take a gamble on him. i do think you need a new manager this summer - i actually think its blatantly obvious - but not everyone can see it of course! certainly karl robinson at mk dons and, less so in my opinion, gregg abbott at carlisle are both bright managers who play the game the right way - mk dons especially. there are plenty about, you just need to know where to look! its whether your owner wants a decent manager or a big name who can highlight his brand on sky tv...
It's fair to say my 'old man' will be turning in his grave due to the things going on at Portman Road. As the song from Record Breakers goes - relegation's what you need, if you wanna....
