Did you have your hand in a bucket of ice when you wrote that and did it help with the pain? I thought people liked science. I tried the religion thread and everyone said it's all about science these days
Taken from the journal Neuro Report - ''Bad language could be good for you, a new study shows. For the first time, psychologists have found that swearing may serve an important function in relieving pain.... psychologist Richard Stephens of Keele University in England, who led the study. And indeed, the findings point to one possible benefit: "I would advise people, if they hurt themselves, to swear," he adds.'' See I provide a reference as well - good scientific practise.
good work jb swearing probably is good for you to some degree, but not to the extent that kids do it now days in **** this, ****ing ****e that every other word, bit like rhc plus all that experiment shows really is if your mind is distracted ie by the cold of the ice, any thing else would probably work, but then you go down the route of everyone has dif pain tolerance threshold etc.
I think the reasoning behind it is to do with the brain and pain receptors, not distraction. When you swear your blood pressure goes up which helps pain relief, or something like that Downside is, the more you do it the less it helps as it ceases to be emotionally charged
Let's suppose Blatter can't ride it out. And so? Platini will come aboard and he's even more dangerous, anti-democratic and anti-British. Or some other basterd. Your last paragraph is too naive. For any significant change in the structure of FIFA to happen, the outsiders rather than the insiders will need to rise up against its inherent flaws rather than against mere acting culprits. Also, there has to be a big stick in the hands of a few big FAs with which to threaten FIFA if reform is not instated, such as, "We're gonna secede and form our own federation, if you... ", smth along those lines.
....and then the other thing to consider is just how clean are the hands of some within the English FA and other countries respective Associations? Hard to imagine that after such a long time at the top that Blatter hasn't gathered any juicy info on various top level football figures around the world. Makes you question just how keen some will be to see a "sea change" at all.
He might be American or referring to the institute who conducted the study. In which case, RHC, FFS Otherwise, as you were, Mr. Austin.
Good points. I would like it if the FA could get together with the other top FA's and make a breakaway, but it's never gonna happen. How did the French take control of 'our' game anyway? can you empty your in box
Job done The fact is footy is as corrupt an industry as any other multi-billion pound industry (if not more so). We all see the people who run it, we all see the owners who are allowed to flit in and out of clubs, the Russian gangsters, the Italian mafia, the Dallas cowboys etc. It's a beautiful game on the pitch but a ****ing ugly, dirty one off it.
Change will be driven by the corporations and TV companies who fund the entire thing, none of whom will want to be associated with bung taking amateurs. The entire structure and make up of the organisation will have to change once the full extent of the **** storm rips the current shambles
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27787841 **** off Blatter your last years on Earth will be spent in courts watching your pathetic legacy crumble
Are we so sure about platini being such a baddie? I remember him post-Heysel, when he was a Juve player going to great lengths to state that he didn't think it was all the fault of the Liverpool (orJuve fans), and he was very, very critical of Uefa and the Belgian authorities. Anyway, I hope you're right Tobes, I do. I have no problem with FIFA taking the WC to where it hasn't been before (Australia? SE Asia?) or been for ages, but if they do insist on attempting to play in 45 degree heat in June and July I hope the rest of the world responds by sending Conference teams and youth players, and instead holds a round-robin, international tournament at various locations during 'qualifying' and the tournament proper.
Unfortunately yes. FAs too are corrupt, non-transparent, unaccountable, interdependable and legally entwined with FIFA. However, they are smaller, confined in a nation, and closer to operations. So they can be shamed into action by domestic opinion if the latter is strong enough to will a change. The cynical me wishes this WC and especially the final get infested by stupid referee mistakes, offside goals and shameless diving, to the point of having the hard-done-by party quit the game in disgust and cause outrage. I am sure that were FIFA not so rotten, we'd have had in a short span more honest refereeing, video replay instated, diving eradicated, more balanced leagues etc etc. Speaking of swearing... I might have spoken to or read the comments of hundreds of fans, and there is not one educated guy or gal amongst them that's able resist a tourette-like offensive outburst overcoming their bodies when FIFA and Blatter are mentioned. They are positively hated, as much as the game is loved, and most likely because of that.
