Aussie and NZ isnt much of an endorsement and I wonder if even they would back Trump.

Yeh good point, it does depend on whether it's a NATO country but I think he's got a bee in his bonnet against arabs so it's equally likely he'll go full ****** on some country in the middle-east. If that happens, even if he initially gets some support, I fully expect him to go batsh1t crazy to the point his so-called allies tell him where to go.

Why are you having a hissy fit? Firstly, it wouldnt sabotage any military alliance. Is that what happened after Vietnam? Would that really have happened if we hadnt supported them during the Iraq war? Your argument seems to be we should support them come what may.

Secondly, when did I say it's for ****s and giggles in our discussion? That was someone else. And I also didnt say it's to bring down America a peg either. You're a bit of a sensationalist when someone offers a different opinion to yours. I've only said that it's a means to make America reflect on its role in the world. Considering the fcking mess they've created, imo that can only be a good thing.

We did support them in Vietnam.
And I wasn't talking about the Alliance between the UK and the US, I was talking about NATO.
If the US got dragged into a war that half of NATO disagreed with, or god forbid, a war with another NATO member, then it could have serious ramifications worldwide.
    Like Iraq did.

And who is having a hissy fit? <laugh>

All I'm saying is the US has miltary operations happening all over the world all the time. Many of which aren't classed as war but ethically questionable nonetheless.

All that Iraq proved was that you dont need a nutter like Trump for an American president to lead the world into mayhem. Hilary Clinton or anyone could well do the same or just do it undercover like Obama's been doing. Either way it's still bad for the world regardless. The only difference with Trump at the helm would be its respectability would be questioned, and that's all. It will continue until we get to a point where we see an American president like Trump, so extreme and irrational to make America think again internally.

That's not a dig against America as a nation or the American people. I would love America to be a force for good in the world but it isnt atm. I want it to play an important part in the world based on collective decisions, such as the UN. IMO somewhere after Eisenhower it lost that idealism and I simply want that opportunity back. It's a jolt to the system as I dont see it happening any other way.

**** me, you'd think they were some sort of world superpower. No wonder we've been slavishily carrying their bags for them since WWII.

Reading the sentence after may have helped. It's not the military operations but the nature of them, their methods and their purpose. But clearly it's about whether you believe they're worth having or not. I believe not.

Yup, we actually had troops on the ground in Vietnam, some 2000 I believe, but the Prime Minister said he would not order them to fight, they had to volunteer, and a lot did.

Read an interesting article on Britains role in Vietnam recently in fact, here is an excerpt:
"As well as providing regional intelligence, Britain supplied military hardware through back channels and offered paid training in jungle warfare to US special forces. British soldiers also signed up in their hundreds to fight. It is estimated that as many as 2,000 Britons were on the ground in Vietnam; individuals simply resigned from the army and re-enlisted in Australian or New Zealand fighting units. Other documents reveal that SAS soldiers were recommended to be given civilian status in US units ‘so that their British military identity is lost’. Witnesses also state that late in the war US night-bombing raids over Laos were flown out of a specially-built British air base in Thailand and British ships supported US commando river missions into Cambodia as well as stemming supply lines to the Communist North Vietnamese." - See more at: http://www.historytoday.com/marc-tiley/britain-vietnam-and-special-relationship
